From OldVol74 on VQ.. interesting post

"Apply a little logic here people.

You have a rabid fan base clamoring for a particular guy to be your head coach. Not just your everyday, garden variety clamoring, but pandemonium clamoring. Desire, that were it not to be followed through on, would likely derail your entire strategy for anyone else you pursue. So, you make the obligatory run at the guy and leak that he said thanks, but no thanks. Maybe you even ask the guy to make a throw away comment on his MNF broadcast.

Rumors are put to rest and you move on to your legitimate target.

Now, here's what happened. A group of very influential boosters and former players worked the back channels. One booster has his name on the training center. Gruden was prepared to accept and was already putting together a staff. Currie, for the same reason as in 2012, to placate another big money booster, torpedoed it because he owed his job and, he felt, his security to the other Big Dog named Haslam.

Now, if you doubt this, and you buy the line that some of the company guys fed, that they met in Tampa and Gruden said no, then ask yourself this question; why was Gruden's exact details not leaked to certain cooperating media members like Schiano and Gundy's details were leaked, down to the dollar.

Why wasn't Mullen's detailed offer leaked?

For the same reason Gruden's numbers were never leaked by the media. There was never an official offer made to either Mullen or Gruden by the university. The only numbers you've heard from the Gruden deal were leaked by insiders.

The CBS leak Sunday Morning was a controlled leak by the boosters working on Gruden.

I'm not making this CBS report up, google it.

In the meantime, doing Jim's bidding, Currie makes an end run around the other boosters and springs Schiano on them. The Schiano leak was made by the other boosters who wanted Gruden. Never could they have imagined the outcry.

Now, if you believe the guy who painted the rock and a handful of vocals down at gate 21 got this thing torpedoed, then you may want to stay up late Christmas Eve and watch the fireplace. This was stopped by very influential people both on the booster side, who were infuriated because they had been backstabbed at the eleventh hour, and by politicians.

Now, would Gruden still accept? Who knows?

But anyone saying that the actions of the last 6 days wouldn't make any candidate step back because of all of the negative national media, then you're not being fair. If Gruden accepted now, he'd be burning every bridge with the media group he works for because they've spent the last 6 days saying what a bunch of losers we are.

Believe what you will. I've been around this program a long time and it’s been my privilege to meet a lot of very influential folks."

Most folks know the media is FULL of IT! As well as many in the coaching community and the media. There have been some that actually took Tennessee's side in the last few days. Gruden don't have to answer to the media who painted UT in a bad light. Most know Haslam and Currie were the backstabbers, including many in the media. Many at ESPN simply do not like UT, not saying there is or isn't a agenda with them but it is obvious of some folks at ESPN's dislike for UT. If the same situation was happening at one of their darlings, their narrative would be totally different and most of the country full well knows this. TN has now cleared a path, Gruden may or may not take it, but you can bet your bottom dollar he knows the real truth. And I don't think he is worried about what some of these media pundits say at all. ESPN is slowly losing punch, social media is where most folks turn to nowdays. How is taking the Tennessee job burning bridges with the media anyway. Not trying to be a jerk, I think you are well connected and I respect you. But I don't believe Gruden is going to let the media nor Tennessee fans dictate what he does. If he truly wants the job he will take it now, no way Haslam is the total voice anymore after all this. Just my opinion. If I misunderstood what you were saying I am sorry. Just don't think the media will dictate a dadgum thing with any coach from taking the job. It's a great job with the right adminstation and now the athletic department will be ran right. That is what it is all about. The media will just blow another direction.

Isn't quite a bit of the stuff we do a total waste of time? It may be a waste, but it is enjoyable in the 'what if' sense.

Absolutely correct sir. Forgot
I will say it's fun also for the pilots that watch and crazy file flight plans that trigger the people watching!:dance2:

CPF on air with Doug Matthews on Nashville's 104.5, CPF still knows his X's and O's, they are rehashing what went wrong this season and a lot of bad coaching and mistakes in personnel are being brought up ... fixable things with the right coach, like hmm ? Gruden !

From SmokeyDog on TOS

"Sit back and enjoy the next 48 hours then we’ll all be able to give the middle finger to all the people that laughed at us for the Currie debacle for the next 10 years. No respected coach was coming here as long as Currie was here. He should have never have been hired & the only reason he was is Big Bev trusted Lil Jimmy. Lil Jimmy wanted Currie b/c he could run the show.

Get ready to tell the SEC “Volnation is coming and hells coming with us”

Defib...get me a defib!!

How's it going guys.... After yesterday I feel much better about the direction the football program is headed. Fulmer's on the hill, now let's see what he has in store for us

I thought it was just said he would be busy working on something else.

RockyTopSC post yesterday 9:08

“David is dealing with other things from what I understand and I will leave it at that and ask that everyone respect that and please don’t run wild with speculation. We should just start a public push for Charles. Strategically our friends at the NAACP may help us out with that one.”

So leave it at that.
