I think the ceiling is probably higher but share all your concerns.

We all agree he's going to have bring in some big time recruiters. However, do those type guys want to work for Mike Leach? He's a weird cat - which is sometimes fine - but do they want to deal with it on the ground level day in and day out?

Like, I can't imagine Kevin Steele jumping at the opportunity to make Mike Leach his boss.

I think you’re reading too much into the guy’s personality. He likes to have fun with the media, so what. He’s probably the most down to earth guy on a day to day basis. Tells it like it is. That’s what are current players are starving for.

He doesn’t need a crash course on how to win in any conference or at any level. He’s won with less at both schools.

That would be such a disaster and Bill has just the right ego to make sure it happens.

The Haslams and even the Duncans have operated in Tennessee (especially East, Tennessee) as though elected and other big time positions were hereditary. The Fords do it in West, TN. It's not healthy and we shouldn't put up with being anyone's fiefdom.

I appreciate your input and I'm not as enthusiastic as most others here on Leach but that's okay. I don't have to have my guy and I'm willing to let others get their guy.

I did want to point out in response to one of your comments that Washington State leads the PAC-12 in Time of Possession this year (33:11). His offense has run 958 plays while his defense has run only 750 plays. This all translates to ranking #11 Nationally in TOP. Only Miss State of the SEC teams had a higher TOP ranking for 12 regular season games. Now of course, as you note, this may change against some of the teams on our schedule. I looked at their game against Stanford thinking maybe that would be an outlier - but it wasn't, at least not for TOP. Leach's offense contolled the ball for 33:10, running 77 plays vs only allowing 47 plays for The Cardinal.

# of plays for 2017 regular season by game

WST 73 MT ST 44
WST 94 Boise ST 72
WST 74 Ore ST 70
WST 84 Nevada 54
WST 81 USC 58
WST 67 @ Ore 72
WST 74 @ Cal 70
WST 78 Colorado 74
WST 101 @ AZ 51
WST 77 Stanford 47
WST 86 @ Utah 76
WST 69 @ Wash 62

That's awesome. I appreciate the work you put in there. It does ease some of my concerns.

Ok - regarding this point......

He absolutely MUST recruit better here and he will be given more resources here for sure. But recruiting in the SEC is a tough grind. You have to love doing it. I don't know that he fits that.

Also, I think he's done really well at smaller places because he doesn't really need the flash that a program like UT offers. He is a really good coach but I don't think having the UT brand really helps him reach new heights.

The UT brand sells itself. When high school kids in the southeast get a glimpse of this offense, they’ll be beating down the door the sign here. You have to think about how successful he’s been with lesser talent. Give him top 20 classes and see what happens. Dooley could get those classes and I think he can too.

The dude went on 60 minutes for the sole purpose to recruit players for his school. He has what it takes to recruit. Yes he is a oddball, but he is a genius. I guarantee you he can talk a player into coming and playing for him.

Yes he is going to need to have great assistants that can recruit as well, but so do Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU....etc every SEC school needs to have amazing assistant that can recruit. come on now. Mike Leach is the guy

He's had more success than Dan Mullen with schools at a bigger disadvantage than MSU.

What scares me is they want to slide Bill into Joe Johnson old role after he gets done playing governor.

You’d think we’d be done with royal families after what went down in the 1770s.

After this fiasco, there should be riots in the streets.

He discussed recruiting once in an article that was about qb’s. He said a lot of 5 stars have great arm strength but what he looks for is Accuracy. He’s proven it with scrubs so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. If he says he doesn’t like Trevor Lawrence and wants some 3 star qb I will defer to his judgement

If he goes after him.. woo hoo

The latest twist in the wild Tennessee coaching search involves the Vols making a trip out to Los Angeles to meet with Washington State head coach Mike Leach, two sources told SI.

Word is the meeting with Leach and Tennessee AD John Currie lasted a few hours and went "very well," SI has learned. And I’m told there would be genuine interest in the Vols job from the Wazzu head man. However this whole deal is complicated by the dynamic swirling around within UT’s leadership. We’ve heard from multiple sources there is a lot of in-fighting, finger-pointing and back-stabbing taking place amongst Tennessee brass. As SI reported earlier this week, there is a growing faction at Tennessee pushing to get Currie removed. Former Vols head coach Phil Fulmer is said to be one of those battling with Currie and that could muck up the process to reel in Leach.

Can't win the division, much less the conference with top 20 classes.

I've seen that the OL is his favorite part of the offense to scheme.

He loves the battles on the line.

It’s not the classic linemen everyone loves, but the style he tended to have at TT and WSU were something I really enjoyed. He always seemed to have a bunch of nasty, angry, gut punchers in his OL. They’re almost on islands so every rep was a kind of fight.
