Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVI

I didn't say Leach 'needed' to become our coach. I pointed out a few ways he would make the fan experience more fun. He's a vast improvement over the previous options. The fans made that improvement possible.

I'm a Gruden supporter to the core. I posted in the very first Gruden thread in 2012 and kicked off one of the later threads that year. As soon as the 2017 Gruden threads cranked up, I was right back in the game. I always knew Gruden could be a game changer for our school. But circumstances beyond our control stopped it in 2012 and it looks ominous this year. The fact our boosters and admin stand in the way of the best interests of the football program is infuriating.

I promised to hang in here to the end and that's what I'll do. I've sent legislators and UT leaders emails and created Facebook and Twitter posts that were shared by 100's of people. I'll keep doing it until the fight is finished.

Make no mistake; I'm engaged and committed. That doesn't mean I can't start looking for positives in possible hires. I will be here and fully committed to the next coach and his players.

agreed

good to hear, GBO

About an hour and half late but love the effort!

I tried. Had to wade through a bizillion ignored posts by some arkansas dude. I could not hear him, but he seemed awful chatty.

So guess we will find out where Davenports/DiPietro heads are at and whether or not we have pirate ship in the Vol Navy.

Yea sorry, but we have ****in Guarantano and Dormady as QB's.

We're built to run the ball.

Are you Butch Jones? Again, we ran the ball like crap. Worst Red Zone offense in NCAA. That's not a team built to run the ball. Its a team incapable of running the ball.

Hell drop all the sack yardage losses, add up QD and JG running yardage. Throw 20% on top for JG injuries late. You might get 40 yards per game. Kelly didn't run for 100 in the vast majority of games either.

You are talking like Leach is going to come in and disassemble the 90's Cornhusker offense. Its an offense that went 15 quarters touchdown free. Its a nonsense argument you are making. Not just a fantasy, but one in direct conflict with the evidence. What it was built for is irrelevant, and you can't see what's in front of your face to argue Leach is going to hurr our offense. Its just a stupid claim.

@BillHaslam here's the only way you get to jimmy.they all want that SENATE seat coming open and they have vastly underestimated the power of VN. I know a lot of votes Bill will not be getting. Make your voices heard where it will resonate. Does Bill wanna stay as head of BOT with his appointed cronies or the Senate with eyes on the WH?

Bubbles bust everyday.

And throw players in a dark room

A player that showed up im sunglasses and street clothes for practice claiming he had a concussion and couldn't be out in sunlight. The concussion protocol literally requires the coach and medical staff to put them in a dark area if the player is sensitive to light.

And the room he was supposedly locked in wasn't a shed, didn't have a lock, and the player put himself in it against instructions.

Not gripping at you for not knowing. The press told one side that was a false narrative, and barely covered the court documents that showed what really happened. Not unlike what's happened to us.

Gotta say...I have a bad feeling about Leach.

Sorry, deerhunter.

Gotta know how to switch gears and get some SEC orientated defensive guys around him. If Grinch comes with him we're in trouble defensively but we are anyway. Just have to win the shootouts air raid style. Just doesn't sound SEC to me.

WSU has a top 20 ranked Defense currently. I don't think we're at risk of having them be worse than an SEC oriented defensive guy like Shoop...

Yea, I feel ya, but if Currie/Haslem wants someone they can easily control I promise it is not the pirate haha

Go read the article where UTAD capped assistant salaries under Jones. Haslam been doing this chit on two levels for a number of years. They'll be controlled and they'll like it.Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good night, all! Need to rest up. Hope we have Grude news tomorrow. If not, we'll be ready to do battle again!

I think the governor already decided not to run for Senate.

Glad the rumor mill finally turned to Leach, my person favorite which is not named Gruden. I'm not optimistic because I think the word is out on our AD/booster dysfunction and it's going to be hard to get anything but a total mercenary or someone who is incredibly desperate until things change at the top.

You are an idiot. Leach is a great hire. He took Texas Tech to #1 and Washington State to #9 using players no one else wanted and churning out NFL talent. And FYI our recruits are already tweeting their love of the hire.

Hide behind a keyboard. No one else likes you on here. Leach won't come here anyway. I'll back him if he does for the players sake but you need to go read Kiffin's article about the SEC being a different animal. Also I watched coach Peterson put an azz whippin' on your boy a week ago. That's what this thread is about.....getting a real coach in here. You see we can't do it for an obstacle that keeps getting in the way. You are focused short term and this thread has been up and running for quite awhile and you just barge in and call me an idiot.

That's alright think you're some cool sh#t. We see the long term problem. Leach isn't even hired yet and I pray he's playin Currie. UT can win and stay around the top consistently if the AD approaches the matter properly. He's allowed himself to be captivated by the owner of the Cleveland Browns, Ha Ha Ha Ha, and that's exactly what you and every UT fan are staring at in your future. Now would you kindly leave this thread?

edit: Once again as I stated earlier where's a title associated with Leach? You rant and rave about reaching a high ranking twice and I'm an old-timer used to seeing UT consistently ranked in the top 10. The coach who done it is an ambassador currently and he's forced to sit around and watch this joke being played. It's a sad,sad time for UT football because of Haslam/Currie.

He does make me laugh.

I'm not sold that this happens. This war has been going on publicly on VN for over a month. This program has been burnt to the ground in the last week and is coming off it's worst season in history.

Why stop when you're about to bayonet your enemy in the heart? I'm confused and need some clarity. This will need spelled out to me in black and white, no cloak and dagger sh**.

Hawk,
Maybe it is not as cloak and dagger as we may imagine. Maybe Gruden never had an interest and there is no "coalition of big boosters". I blame Gruden and the Administration for letting it build to a fever pitch and not shutting it down with one or two sentences.

We fans have been up in arms, but I have seen no evidence that the big donors are. Admittedly, some donors are upset and were misled as per AV.

It could possibly be as simple as that the Haslams have once again F**ked us all and they and the administration are as inept as they appear. We know Jimmy's character (just look at the Pilot trial)

At this stage of the of the game, I only believe what I hear from Atlanta Vol. I am not saying others have been intentionally giving out false information. But a lot of it has been incorrect.

MIT_Beaver has been a great example of how the masses (myself included) can be moved with one social media account and some wildly elaborate supposed inside information. Remember his early statement,"These people don't miss"? Well, they have missed horribly!

If it is Leach, it will be entertaining to watch, but not Championship calibre. I have enjoyed this thread and hopefully will continue to do so. But if there ever was chance for Gruden to come, I believe it is long past. Otherwise, we would not be down to our 15th choice on the list.

If they agreed to leach then they weren’t really fighting.

He hasn't been hired yet. Leach has the upper-hand and he knows it. Currie is desperate. What will happen is cyclic. Leach will create the Vol hype for several years which will fill the seats. Always give'em two years and expect big time improvements in 3rd year which may or may not happen. It didn't with Dooley and it did with Jones.

The formula favors Haslam and his business style and few can pull off an SEC championship in 3 years. That's why the long term plan with UT alumni being led by Gruden was a dream. I wanted it and I want Haslam outta the way. I lived close to Cleveland in my early 20's and know their enthusiasm and it's very similiar to UT. Doesn't make any sense to me and I'm not a business man but I keep looking at Bama and Saban and see something that works. I also see UT paying buyouts after buyouts. I did read lots of fiqures but they are easily manipulated these days but UT football is raking in major bucks. I do know we went into the red awhile back because of Dooley,Tyndall and still paying Phil all at once plus maybe other things on top of that.

I've witnessed the worst season ever since I fell in love with the swamp rat years ago. Been there thru thick and thin. Just studied Currie's sham job he pulled on Frank Martin and watched the wh*#e attempt to parade Schiano on what folks are calling an end around. To me it's not about Schiano and Penn. St. and it's not about Gruden. It's about one sick man allowing himself to be led by another sick man. Mercy on your souls Vol fans when the blind lead the blind all fall by the wayside. Don't be mislead sheeple.

I really like Mike Leach and he's a really good coach. I'm worried that he has never really worked with 4 star calibre athletes across the board and never recruited them. I'm sure he can bring in a great staff if Currie is gone and Haslam is relegated to Tier Two.

But if an MOU is signed with Gruden, this is patently absurd. HAS GRUDEN SAID NO TO TENNESSEE? HAS GRUDEN BEEN APPROACHED? These are the questions that need asking and, most importantly, answering.

If the answer is NO then EVERY MF'ING THING ELSE IS WRONG!
