Manning is pretty closely tied to the Republican party - the Haslams in particular. Jimmy has been wanting to get Peyton to Cleveland for some time.

His association with the Haslams is not unsubstantiated and it would be difficult for me to believe he has not tied himself to the Haslam ship with this hire. In fact, the real reports post Schiano this week have already confirmed that to be the case. I don't want to believe it either but the evidence is there.
