Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLVIII (New Coach Edition)

Before the search everyone was saying UT had the cash and was willing to spend it.

I think that was the message sold to boosters by our AD. But in Haslam fashion in the end he just does what he was always gonna do. Find his guy and ram him thru.

I also think he did a bit of 'raising cash from the other boosters' job so he could tell them "If you pony up, we'll get the best damn coach in the country", then went rogue on them after they ponied up -- that is mafia *hit

Surely that's not what's disqualifying him, is it?

IDT Norvell or Morris will talk to us right now. It's like with Frost-- we're down their list. That's not a great feeling, but it's where we're at. Not sure Norvell is someone we'd consider, anyway.

I really think we'd be better served by stepping back and not rushing this hire. This recruiting class is the least of our worries.

There is something else out there about Norvell that I will not share because it's just speculation. Spoke with a former Memphis player who confirmed it's out there. It's apparent though that it's not effecting his coaching ability.

Hyams reported on the radio today so I'll say it, he was seen on video entering a casino I'm assuming in tunaca. I guess they don't want coaches gambling. It may not have been Hyams but it was on the animal.

Probably true, but who had incentive to lie? What would have happened to Schiano if he admitted that he reported the incident? What would have happened to Bradley if he said Schiano did report the incident to him? What possible incentive would McQuerry have to lie about it? That's why you cannot have Schiano as the face of your football program. Recruiting: "Mom, here's the testimony of McQuerry implicating Schiano in a child molestation case. Do you want your son playing for him?" Due diligence would have made that evident to anybody with half a brain. There was no due diligence because Currie was told by Haslam that he had been vetted by the Browns (but that was before the release of the Sandusky court documents).

My response was in no way commenting on the hireability of Schiano. I agree that you just can't hire someone who "may" have known. I didn't want him.

Skeet tried to justify that Schiano would have filed a defamation suit if it wasn't true. So, therefore, there must be some merit to it. Under the law, Schiano can't file such a suit. So, that alone can not tend to show whether Schiano knew or not.

6 days. He’s had since Georgia IMO.

I know early signing period and all but we have got to sacrifice this class for our long term future. Doug Matthews said today he’s spoken with several people who claim at least 90% of this class will hold together including both QBs.

In the meantime if Morris is out of play at A&M we roll with him.

Just my opinion

DM also said that Kevin Steele is a great option and that Currie's biggest mistake was not forcing the Schiano hire through anyways.

Ralphie did that on a horse with Tony Soprano and then burned the barn down with the horse in it to collect the insurance

What I don’t get about Schiano and Doeren is that a dozen jobs are open and literally no other program is interested in those guys. WTF should we be?

There you go. I didn't know media had commented on it. I was told that his agent is aware of it, and there seemed to be some concern about it. But if they can't prove it's a pattern of behavior, then I see no issue.

Yep I heard it too. Seems like not much to me, but I can see how people would be sensitive about it.

Seems like the narrative unfolding now is that even prominent, tier 1 boosters were promised that their money would go towards a Gruden-caliber coach (if not Gruden himself).

But the plan was to hire Schiano all along.

I don't understand how the Haslams and Currie thought that was going to work. Maybe they have screwed over other millionaire boosters before and gotten away with it and thought they could do it again.

I think this is the gist of it but I still feel like there is more to the story.

That's insane. There's no sports betting, what's the harm in playing slots with Memaw?
