It's human nature...
We have all been riding the roller coaster for sure the last few days.

But we were told it would get rough.
VERY rough.

I do know that Peyton Manning had Gruden ready to take the job in 2012.

And a lot of powerful people got on the same page for the next go round.

The fans are definitely helping.

There is a reason that Gruden nor his agent haven't distanced themselves publicly.

Again, if Gruden wanted the job all he would have to do is say so.

After Sunday, for Gruden or his agent to say he wants to talk to Tennessee about the head coach position and Currie still doesn't, that's about the only thing that might prove any of this.

Because what's changed? If the boosters had an agreement the job is still there. Nobody is hired. Gruden hasn't signed a new deal.(publically at least)

If Gruden to UT was true before it could still be just as true.

All it would take if for him to say so. But he isn't.

All reports showed that Gruden was interested. Even on Sunday when the Schiano news broke. Everything from Sunday on came out of left field and interrupted and halted all of the Gruden discussions.

What’s weird is the CBS report came out Sunday morning about Gruden, John Brice said that Schiano was a smokescreen, and Currie insructed everyone in the ADs office to hand over their cellphones. It was entirely Haslam and Currie going rogue because of all of the pressure.

I don’t know if we’ll ever get Gruden back to the table but we at least need to try for the sake of saving face and getting the splash hire we deserve. All of this is 100% on Haslam and Currie and not the fans fault.

Would give my left nut just for it to be confirmed that he wanted the job. Even if he didn't anymore.

Agreed.

But how many chances has he had to shut down any rumors?

How easy would it be to jump on the wagon with the rest of his ESPN employees?

If he wasn't interested we would definitely know it by now.

Gruden will not say anything about wanting the Tennessee job while John Currie is AD.

Trey Wallace reported weeks ago about offers being made to Gruden, even citing specific salary numbers and other job requirements. For people to come out now and say "it was never happening, or he never had any interest," is revisionist history.

If Gruden won’t, we will. Just give us the details. Exactly what you know and how.

If he really wants this job so badly, all it would take would be for him to publicly say so right now. The public outcry would really give Currie no other option than to hire him for whatever price Gruden wanted, within any kind of reason.

Probably not whatever price, but if the rumors are true all it would take is one statement. If Gruden really wanted to job he's at risk of losing it by not speaking out.

IF he wanted the job. Which I don't think he really did. Maybe he enjoyed the discussion. Maybe he liked the attention. But if he really wanted it, it was handed to him just a few days ago. All he has to do is say so.

Guess my daughter is losing a classmate.

Currie makes this hire and I'm out.
Guys, I can't express it enough. Gruden is not gonna happen at this point and probably never was. I was as much on the train as anyone. Even bet $500 that it was gonna happen, which I'm about to lose when Brohm is hired. You're setting yourselves up for another heart break if you continue to think it's got a possibility of happening. The fact that Currie is still making calls tells me he isn't going anywhere. Prepare yourselves for a huge letdown. :hi:

Exile, your logic just hiccuped.

(1) You may be misquoting Trey Wallace.
(2) Trey Wallace could have been wrong.
(3) Even if you got the quote right, and Trey was right, Trey saying "an offer was made to Gruden" does not prove that "Gruden had interest." The two statements are not logically connected in any way.

Love you, man, but that was an illogical post you just made.

If he wants the job then why is he risking losing it while UT talks to other coaches?

Do any of us believe there is any amount of money that could persuade Mr. Gruden to come to coach at the University of Tennessee? If so, how much would it take? This thing is reaching a boiling point and our program is on the verge of being irrelevant for another decade. I believe the only thing that can help at this point is the "big time" hire. We've got to get a rock star coach. I'm tired of the negative publicity and the shade from ESPN and the rest of the country. I honestly believe that there is a deliberate effort by the media that is anti-Tennessee and anti-Vols. I mean just look at the Peyton Manning Heisman robbery. Our boosters and whomever else has any influence on this hire need to step up for our fans, our program and our players and make us proud to be a volunteer. I will support our vols regardless but it's been very painful to be a Volunteer football fan. I hope and pray that we win on this hire. This whole process feels like we are losing to Vanderbilt and Kentucky every single week. The fans nor the players deserve this crap. Our families, our history and many of our greatest memories have been around this football program. This is more than football to many of us. Don't really know how or where to direct this plea but it is a desperate plea to get this right.

More importantly, no one is coming out and saying it was never happening. There's more people saying "It was happening then Currie went bat sh** and changed everything.

It isn't revisionist history unless there's actual evidence. Which there isn't any.

I’ll be totally honest. We are gonna set our program back another 5 years with this hire. It’s sad and disgusting.

The only realistic candidate left, that can produce a winning product, is Kiffin.

You are probably correct. But no way John is going to hire Lane at this point. After the beating they took Sunday I’d be shocked if they stepped on any thin ice. John at this point will hire someone blah before he excites the “mob” as we have been dubbed. I can’t believe I am saying this but Tee may be the best option. If we are going to settle let’s at least orange blood learn on the job.

Love you too, man. Couple things:

I'm using voice to text.

You make several assumptions of your own in questioning my logic, which you have not proven yourself.

Can't really engage in the kind of debate with you that I wish, due to being safe on the roads and all. :)
