This. Buyout terms (both ways) are much more important. There is no such thing as overpaying for a great coach, especially in our current situation (slight hyperbole, but basically true).

It sounded to me like they were not agreeing to investing in the program as much as he liked. It says he was not encouraged by the response.

Depends on his mindset imo. If he decided he wanted to leave only after the negative response, that is bad. If he went in thinking "either give me this stuff or I am out" that is much better. Jmo. I agree though, I dont love the tone of that report.
