Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

In 2012 Haslam was openly against it. This time around I believe Currie and Haslam schemed behind their back. Unfortunately they fell for it.

They still underestimated their opponents and still lost.... I understand why but the game is about the final score

Think national media had a field day when we ran off Schiano? When we were going to offer him what, $4.5-5 million per year?

Imagine the field day they have when our backup plan after that is to get Gundy and double his salary to $8.4 million.

Massive joke played on the entire fanbase.

Again, not saying Gundy isn't a good coach. But doubling his salary? $8.4 million? That's a disaster.

It is a joke. But what can we do? The national media hates no matter what we do and that ain’t gonna change, regardless of who we hire. It’s not Gundy’s fault. It’s not fair to be mean and nasty to him just cause we hate Currie/Haslam.

That’s what Currie/Haslam is counting on. They know we can’t protest Gundy without looking like bigger fools. They are counting on us supporting Gundy. And I think we should. But we have got to get creative in ways to support Gundy (if we get him) without supporting Currie/Haslam. We need to think on this.

if we get Gundy we need to give him a chance...
He's a lot better than the dip chit they tried walk out Sunday...
Still will not forgive Currie or Haslam and hope they are gone right after the hire...

This is a difficult hire to support only because Currie and Haslam are still tied to it.

There is nothing here to be happy about.

I would only be Happy with Gruden .... however realistically from where we are right now I would say Gundy is a good hire if we get him

I'm with JFreak on this. I have to be. Although I think the pressure needs to stay on the admin, we desperately need to get a good hire and get one quickly to salvage the program. Doesn't mean I don't still want Currie gone and Haslam out of the picture. I'll continue sending emails even after it's done.

I respect where you're coming from punch, I just have to disagree. Any coach at this point is Haslam buying time for himself and his guy. It is absolutely bigger than hiring one coach. I know this for a fact.

Currie HAS to be gone first. And he can be, we just have to give the big money time to get it done. Vol Nation can do this.

Fire Before Hire.

If he'll take the job, he's worth it. We are not in a position any more to go cheap. We are over the barrel and the bull is loose. You don't complain about the clown that's coming to save you. You're just thankful anyone competent is willing.

So the fans should just give in and be okay with a maniacal decision by an inept AD and boosters. Again he isn’t worth 8 million. More along the 6 million mark is what he’s worth. While you’re at it. Just raise it to 10 and see if we can get an even better higher.

I’m glad you’re not the decision maker. Oh wait, we already have one in Currie that thinks Schiano is an okay hire.

Dang beaver is starting to sound a little desperate on twitter... :ermm:

.@UTPresidentJoe, for once in your life be a leader! Pick up the phone and bring in the people who you know can fix the mess. To hell with Jim Haslam and @John_Currie , UT is bigger than their egos. #SaveUT

Uhh so why are you complaining about a rumored salary then?

You seriously have a reading comprehension problem. I am of the belief and opinion that while he may be a solid coach, he is not in that salary echelon. You shouldn't need to double a man's salary to lure him.

I have only skimmed this board because I am at work but I'm seeing more and more people warm up to the idea of this higher. What about his record at OSU tells you that he deserves this kind of money? Nothing!

And now all will be forgotten and Bev and John get to relax again. Smdh

Nothing about this hire is exciting. People are just relieved it's not Schiano...been worried this would be the case with people bringing kiffin back up.

Is everyone still e-mailing? Apparently some of mine are getting read. I just received my 2nd reply from my e-mails. The latest reply was from the vice chancellor of alumni affairs. Maybe it'll help.

Proud to say, I finally received a response from one email. I will not post the respondents name only the context.

Dear Ms. Clark:
My apologies for the delayed response, but I wanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge receipt of your message and to thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. As a University of Tennessee supporter, your perspectives are important to us, and I will be sure to share your message with the UT System President and members of the UT Knoxville administration.
While I regret that this matter has caused you to reconsider your ongoing financial support of the University, I hope that we can regain your trust as we move ahead. Again, thank you for your message.
Sincerely,

I believe the information they gave was honest, but my concern that no one would consider was always that this is the same group that tried in 2012 and failed... this makes them 0-2

I say put it to bed

Coasty, respect to you, but you have it backwards. This is the same crew that KILLED Gruden in 2012. Jimmy Haslam and his hand-picked AD tool.
