Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

Exile if that is indeed true then I expect no self respecting coach would touch this position for years to come, or at least until the powers that be are gone.

In coaching circles word gets around quickly.

This is so about a power struggle and the Haslams appear to have signaled they are willing to do anything to keep power.

And people wonder why so many of us are depressed right now?

I hate the thought of what's being done to our once proud program. It has to change. It just has to. And if that means I end up turning my back on the program, so be it.

Here’s my take...

No way in hell did a MOU get signed by anyone with authority to sign one only for those same people to go to Schiano. It’s plausible a MOU was executed with boosters and/or mediators and the Gruden camp. But makes zero sense that Currie is involved with Gruden, even gets a MOU executes, then decides Schiano is better and risks legal jeopardy. Makes absolutely zero sense.

That was my question. If we had anything at all signed by Gruden, why would we even dream of talking to Schiano? Surely Currie isn't that stupid? I have a really hard time believing it came off that way. But with this group over on The Hill, nothing surprises me anymore.

Haslam and Currie tried to pull the ole Dirty Sanchez on the other boosters and the Tennessee fan base.

Time for both of them to GTHO![/QUO

But if that has happened, why isn't it being leaked to every damn media outlet in the country right now? Everyone knows we would give anything to have Gruden as coach, and the boosters would succeed in ruining Haslam and Currie in one broad stroke.

But then there's Les Miles...

Given the fact that he wants a job and put it aside...

Why would he call us about the position if any respected coach wouldn't come near it?

In broad strokes. I think we backed out on Schiano, but his agent (SEXTON) ran with the story of him bailing because our fanbase is "toxic."

Over the years I have wondered about this during coaching searches. Exile do you think Sexton has some kind of dirt from UT past he is holding over the admins head?

We seem to get the shaft from him way too often yet come back with smiles for more.

for the lay person, this is all very complicated.

if its being asserted that Gruden had a signed contract, then how does anything having to do with Schiano invalidate that contract and doesn't UT have to honor Gruden's contract ?

and if there was a signed MOU with Schiano, isn't Gruden in fact the injured party with standing in this scenario who could sue for damages ?

please explain.

I explained in detail a few posts back. Click on my name and look for my long post where I give an example about me hiring knuck.

Certain local and natl media members tried to shine the light on Currie's less than stellar standing among AD's and College Coaches but most in VolNation did not want to hear it.

Hell people on this board still think the Currie was doing his own thing with Schiano.

Listen up people - AD's dont hire football coaches in D1 power conferences, boosters do! This has the HOH stank all over it!

I say burn it down!

I think absolute silence from Gruden's side is good at the moment. The people who were trying to get him here in the first place are desperately trying to get the leadership issue resolved.

Don’t you think they should come out and say something versus staying quiet? It would help their cause if we all knew what went down. Once again, that’s what I don’t understand it goes against logic. If you want to control the masses give them the crumbs they need to unite not the silent treatment.

Haslam and Currie talk
Haslam calls Currie
Threatens to walk with his money
Currie plays his tune instead of others
Here we are

I have no idea, but he sure acts like he has noods of all UT admin. In seriousness, I would not at all be surprised if there is a financial relationship between the Haslams and Sexton.

What if hypothetically Gruden and UT executed a MOU or other agreement and he turned in his resignation to ESPN and was ending his contracts with his various endorsements??

What if hypothetically Schiano and UT executed a MOU or other agreement and he resigned from OSU??

So then we would be dealing with tortious interference of contract for Gruden agreement. Fraudulent inducement for Schiano and Gruden. Currie and UT AD and Admin could be on the hook for millions and millions of dollars in damages for both Gruden and Schiano. Fraud if proven can give rise to treble damages as pointed out by Exile as well as punitive damages. It is dizzying if you really think about it.

Now I have no idea what if anything was executed but if agreements were executed then this is going to get incredibly ugly and incredibly expensive. The Tennessee football program and Athletic Department would be FUBAR!

along with exile, I think this spells it out as well.

Hey for the record I believe you 100%. Thanks for clearing things up

If Gruden had signed an MOU, someone would be privy to that info and leak it. It would destroy the upper echelons of UT in the process, but it would be coming to light. I'll believe this when I see it.

If he was a commodity would he already have been hired somewhere? There is a reason he is begging for jobs.

My only question to this, why not leak it? You’ve got over 50-75% of the base now if that leaked UTAD would not survive and the change we want would happen.

Thats exactly what I'm saying...get gruden to show up at the stadium in full bright glorious Orange and White and see what happens when the cameras start to roll.

Because there are some very wealthy donors that don't lke airing their dirty laundry in public. It is bad for business - personal;y I say burn it down but Im not a billionaire or multi millionaire - at least not yet.

Guys, I appreciate all the information shared but this going down a rabbit hole that makes absolutely zero sense. One conspiracy theory too far for me.

Maybe boosters had an understanding with Gruden camp. I believe AV had reason to be optimistic. But no way the actual university signed anything with Gruden and then walked away from that legal document. Too many smart people wouldn’t let that happen just from a legal standpoint...and risk that info goes my public.

Don’t take it the wrong way but a bridge too far for me.

Good night all. FWIW I do still believe all candidates are back in play. Boosters are fired up so I’ll rebain optimistic.

I don't understand either- if he signed a binding contract then whatever Schiano signed, which appeared to be a mou, should be no good. So I'm not getting where that would somehow void Grudens agreement?

You can't burn it down until you have other boosters step up to replace them. As bad as they are at athletics, they pay a steep price to do it. It won't be easy to replace their money or untangle their tentacles in the Univ.

It wouldn't surprise me to see things leaked about Haslam. But honestly, what the boosters are doing right now is above my pay grade. I hope they've got guns as big as they've tried to imply. I also hope they realize that to beat Haslam, they will have to fight mean and dirty.

And for goodness sake, don't leave them standing and trust them not to stab you in the back again.

I am 1000 percent hire gruden, hence me being in this thread. However if you believe anything any of these " insiders" have said you are crazy. I did till this weekend. I hoped, I still have hope. But none of what any of these guys has said has been truly substantiated! However all conflicting reports we're substantiated this weekend.

We can all still band together, use their post as entertainment and still find solace in the fact that we stopped a major screwup by the ad and use that as an example to march forward to still get the coach we want, but to keep believing these posters is just ignorant. Nono was here in these boards knows anything. If your doing it for entertainment, cool. Jmo
