Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLVII

Asked around a little bit - Tee has about 85% approval with the athletic department - but not with the guys that matter. Sexton is really pushing him. I could see us going this route just to keep him happy after the Schiano debacle.

Brohm was Currie's first call this morning so I would assume he's most likely.

Many boosters prefer Pruitt and are going to try to get in his ear before he can take the Mississippi State job.

So the boosters are the ones dead set on hiring an a-hole.....

A touch over 2 weeks post-Butch. If you thought the first 10 or so days were bad, this weekend trashed that in spades.

And now the search has folks criticizing Gruden and Peyton.

Searchageddon.

His presser would be amazing

Really really.

Any coach would be considered a savior after this fiasco. So the BS about them being scared isn't accurate.

I agree with Bruin. I think we had Mullen until Florida kept striking out. Currie panicked and went to his "rainy day" candidate in Schiano. Currie was likely more worried about pleasing his superiors (the Haslams) instead of the fan base, especially if he knew that no matter who he hired, the fan base was going to be disappointed because it wasn't a top tier guy.

We're all giving Currie way more credit than he is due as far as his sneakiness and cunning go. The dude is not a genius, and outside of trolling the fan base with some flight patterns, has run a basic, non-complex search. I think he took a bit of a risk with Gruden, but he, along with others in the know, probably knew it was a pipe dream. How sneaky and clever can a guy, who hired an old legend of a coach where he was great, be? Bruce Weber was no crazy, prophetic hire when Martin left KState. Weber was a retread that had his best season with Bill Self's stellar recruits. We should have studied the history, instead of dreaming about a future that won't come true. It's clear that UT is not viewed among the upper echelon of schools any more by many coaches and the media. Unfortunately, their perspectives are worth more than ours when it comes to hiring a coach.

Haslam is the problem and has been for a long time. Just coming out for all of us to see. He will not back off. We need them to all go to prison. UT is not hiring professors and spending money on things to help with the actual education of our students. They have a shortage of professors but have nice buildings to put kids in but not the staff to teach them as effectively as they could. Names on buildings are not the same as putting money into actually educating students.

What would Pruitt's staff look like? I assume it would be heavy on guys with SEC experience, but would be able to poach anyone from UGA or Bama? I doubt it. I think he would have the John Janceks and Willie Martinezs of the world filling out his staff.

One thing about Pruitt, I think he knows what it'll take to win in this league. Great recruiter and would likely bring a pretty good staff. Especially with the money we would give him. Been a DC for two national championship teams.
