Herbstreit coming after us

Let me rephrase the question.

What other university wanted to hire Shiano as their head coach before this weekend?

We could've hired him 2 years down the road. After his stint with TB, word of how he treated his players, organizations wanting to stay away from him as HC (except one Browns Owner), .500 record and his last successful coaching season being 11 years ago I don't see why we weren't in a bidding war with UF + others for him!

No one is wanting any piece of this guy outside of Urbs as his DC. He gets glowing remarks from Bellichick but I believe that is mainly due to him being purely a "Yes" man.

meanwhile Gridiron now covering their bases w/ both spectrums...Fans should be applauded, and Tennessee going to regret...

What Penn State stuff, factually related to Schiano, is being ignored?

Do you want to continue to commit character assassination with third person hearsay that was not deemed valid when investigated?

Association should have been enough. Sucks for Schiano but life isn’t fair. With our last 24 mos or so this was completely tone deaf and myopic. Period.

We can disagree that working for an organization in which someone else committed crimes is enough to consider all other employees criminals. I do not support that logic.

As you said, life is not fair, however, we can try to be as we discern fact from convenient fiction.

I would not be excited to have Schiano as the next UT HC based on his coaching experience and what I hoped was available to the program.

Unfortunately, for a few weeks, this program will be in a narrative battle for the public to digest the past 24 hours. In the end, we still need a HC that will get us to the SEC Championship. To me, hope is fading that coach will be our next HC. I hope that we find the best coach available to UT.

We need to ask Kirk Herbstreit if his own child were a Sandusky victim and Schiano could have allegedly prevented his child from being raped, would he still want Schiano as the head coach at Ohio State. Would Herbstreit and other employees of ESPN who are condemining the Tennessee fanbase for rejecting the Schiano hire be willing to ignore the possibilty that Schiano might have acted to protect his career instead of a child he saw being sodomized if the child involved was their own child? We need to contunually attach the names Herbstreit and ESPN to the pedofile Sandusky and his despicable acts. Then ESPN will back the bleep off. Trump gave us a blueprint for how to fight fire with fire.

Peyton Manning was more than "implicated" on a sexual assault charge. Should we disassociate him from all school activities?

You going to compare Sandusky’s reign of terror to a litigation happy athletic trainer seeing a patient’s junk? You handling heavy machinery right now?

Typical progressive social justice reply including ad hominem. Well done.

No, if that were the case the press would have been camped out at all of his previous jobs since being at Penn State.

His possible negligence wasn’t out there to be consumed until 2016. By then he was under the protective umbrella of Urban. They don’t have an Anita or a Tennessean who’s given basic carte blanche to exposè the crap out of the big state school.

His employment at Penn State was open and known from the beginning. Also known, post trial, was that Schiano was not considered, in any way, to have knowledge of the crimes or to support a crime. Given those facts, your fear of a imaginary smoking gun created by the press in unwarranted.

Again, basing a fear on something that has been proven to be without merit does not make sense to me. It may make sense to you and you are entitled to your opinion.

Let’s jus say he wasn’t going to be a good fit at Tennessee

From Herb's post that started it all:

"Been traveling all day back from ND/Stanford game last pm. Hearing some @Vol_Football fans upset about Schiano hire!? Why? You know what the Vols record is last 13 YEARS is?? 86-77!! A little better than 6-6 avg! I think he is a GREAT hire to bring you back! Get behind him!!"
_________________________________________

Hiring debacle aside... so, to recap Herb's "analysis" The collective WORST years in the history of UT football were actually statistically significantly better than the collective BEST years of GS's collegiate &/or NFL career. ok. Thanks Herb - what was the point you were trying to make?

Kirk Herbstreit can bite the wind while we UT fans eat popcorn. It is none of his business who we want as head coach, or who we do not want. Go VOLS ! ! !

It's sad that we live in an age of social justice's triumph over due process. It's a very dangerous place.

By even interviewing him we lost either way. He should have never been on the board. At all.

There is a reason no one else bothered to interview him but us. They knew it put them in a no win. You either become part of the Sandusky scandal, or a part of an unjust accusation. That's unfair, but we aren't the reform school for millionaires with unjust reputations. Not other school was willing to take on that role. Currie even flying up to talk to him is a fireable offense. Its really that boneheaded.

To be fair, he would not initially have been acceptable to the majority of UT fans based on his coaching resume.

So.. that means he wouldn’t be good at Tennessee right? We need a coach now that’s gonna bring us all together and be a great fit for Tennessee that’s all the fans wanted..

What’s that? A new dinosaur

Yes...lil champion. A dinosaur! :)

It's sad that we live in an age of social justice's triumph over due process. It's a very dangerous place.

This is not about justice. The person in question should NEVER be assumed to be guilty. -not in the media, not on our message boards, not on our ROCK, not in conversation. ever. full stop.

Tennessee fans should be very clear about that - and anyone who has been assuming guilt needs to do an about face on that issue.

This is about incompetent hiring practices for the most visible representative (and the highest paid employee) of the entire state of Tennessee educational system.

This is about loosing EVERY contested recruit to any major player that wants to take them away from UT football for as along as this individual was HC.

That the individual at the center of this was caught up in this and is suffering from it is not fair, not ok, and not anything for any UT fan to boast or brag about. It is a direct result of incompetence in hiring a public figure.

We should not judge actions about which we have no knowledge. In this instance, the only actions the volunteer fans and Tennessee taxpayers have the right to judge are the actions of the UTAD. That have, and they were right to do so - despite what the good-looking tele-type readers believe in their dear hearts.
