I agree Tennessee brand is tarnished. But I believe it is Currie's fault not the dumb hillbilly hicks that you so called everyone. I guess you are not a dumb East Tn Hick. What are you a New Yorker that thinks he is much better than us?

Currie tainted the Tennessee brand by even considering this guy. If we would have hired him, the scandal would have lingered over the university his entire tenure. Every recruiting trip he would be answering questions about it. The media that is coming after us for not accepting him would have been all over us for hiring a guy that was accused(under oath) of having knowledge of child rapes and did nothing about it.

It's Currie that has damaged the Tennessee brand, not the morally decent human beings that did not want to be associated for the next 5 years with someone that may have turned a blind eye to little boys being raped, just to win a few ball games. I hate it for the guy, if he did not have knowledge. But this is reality, until you can disassociate from this and prove this guy lied under oath about your knowledge of the events then it will hang over your head.

What FACTS are you discussing? There is literally NOT ONE FACT that shows he DID NOT hide anything. It is FACT that under oath he was implicated and he never had to go under oath to deny it.

If you are trulty as stupid as your comments I feel sorry for the life you lead and the people that have be around you on a daily base

The fact is that investigators found no truth in the accusations against him.

These are the same accusations you hold as gospel because they support your football viewpoint.

Why would anyone put credence into anything ESPN says or thinks. Can you say sinking ship? Disney is in major panic mode due to their sports network's lack of profit margin, thus the unprecedented layoffs.

ESPN's opinion means nothing.

What Vol Nation did yesterday will only bolster our next HC and recruits for years to come.

Finally, if yesterday brings pause to how DePietro and Davenport proceed it will be worth every individual protest. The Haslam backlash is priceless.

The idiots are the ones defending a guy accused of allowing a kid to be raped.

Sure it's only an allegation, but I wouldn't hire Bill Cosby or OJ Simpson either

Conversely, the idiots are the ones persecuting a guy and his reputation for not having been proven to allow that to happen. Whether or not he was the right guy for the job per his qualifications is irrelevant in the aftermath of what happened and how it happened. He would have ample cause to file a lawsuit against the university. They just did more damage to him than the person who falsely accused him.

Apparently, there WERE FACTS that showed he DID NOT hide anything. Otherwise he WOULD HAVE BEEN called under oath to defend. The travesty is that McQuery was not slapped with perjury and false testimony for tainting a guys rep FALSELY with no repercussion.

Furthermore, there was the ONE FACT, that the man he was accused of telling this to ALSO DENIED that it happened.

You seem to believe if there weren't facts on his side, he would be called to testify. That's 100% wrong. Someone made an accusation against him. For him to be called in to defend himself, the DA would have believe he had enough information to actually charge him. One accusation without any other evidence is not enough for a DA to win a case, so they aren't going to press any charges.

Your comments about McQuery fall in the same category. If they can't prove he lied (doubt it, and I doubt he did) then they would not charge him. Even then, it's doubtful.

what ignorant uninformed Tennessee fans did yesterday not only made it impossible for Tennessee to hire a quality HC....

The way the fan base turned based on second hand hearsay!!! No coach will touch the job that will have any proven quality. TENNESSEE FANS PROVED HOW IGNORANT THEY ARE YESTERDAY AND NO COACH WANTS THAT HEADACHE OF A IGNORANT UNINFORMED CRAZY FANBASE.

And if that's not bad enough THOUSANDS of articles are going to be written about how stupid, ignorant, and inability to comprehend what they read. THAT WILL BE USED AGAINST Tennessee

SO NOW YOU IGNORANT PEOPLE HAVE NOT ONLY MADE IT WHERE NO COACH WILL TOUCH THIS PROGRAM

THERE WILL NOT BE ONE QUALITY RECRUIT TOUCH IT EITHER.

Backlash spurs Tennessee to renege on offer to Greg Schiano

This is one of thousands of articles that will keep every quality coach or recruit away from Tennessee for YEARS..... idiots

The door is right there... Go root for another team. Bye :salute:

No decent coach wants to come here because of the Haslams and their stranglehold on the program. It has nothing to do with the fans.

I.E see Alabama pre Saban. What happened when Saban got their. Took total control of the program or else he was out.

The only legal action against the university is the memorandum they signed. The university didn't damage him. The fan base did and the university isn't responsibile for what fans on Twitter do.

Maybe it wasn't proven. It was never proven that Casey Anthony killed anyone. I still wouldn't let her baby sit for me. Someone with allegations this serious, unless there's definitive proof the allegations are false (there isn't), should not be hired.

Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Man I wanted les Miles
Schiano was number 2 for me

But he is a good coach and what ignorant Tennessee fans did is crazy.

It was DOUBLE HEARSAY that Schiano turned white not that he actually saw something.

And people let a newspaper headline that's meant to shock you put images in your head that people claimed as facts

Double hear say!!

It truly was well I heard from someone who heard it

Les(s) Miles being your #1 and Schiano as your #2 says all I need to know about your acumen.
Les just another Butch. Without the "home-field advantage" of being in Louisiana, he would not be able to beat teams purely by being able to out-athlete them. His bad decisions per game ratio is quite high, and he is not a great X&Os type coach. The fact that Orgeron is able to come in and do just as well as Miles should speak volumes.
Schiano is not a good coach, and outside of one good season was mediocre in a weak conference. He also has an ego worse than Butch, and the stupid quotes to put him over the top. He didn't just wash out of the NFL, he was booted because of poor treatment of players. Heck, he was even a jerk to NFL scouts coming to try to watch Rutgers players.

Hence, the fact that there were no actual facts to prove he hid anything. just as you say there were no facts to prove McQuery lied. Hence, no charges. He was cleared. We are talking about defenseless kids. I'd be first in line to hang the guilty. But, there was no guilt found and no charges filed as a result of the DA's investigation. And, I am quite sure that since we are talking the rape of innocent boys, the DA wouldn't have cared who Shiano was if there had been evidence to show guilt otherwise. They didn't hold back on Sandusky, and they sure wouldn't have turned a blind eye if there was recourse against anyone else. This is not something he could hide or cover up in the aftermath of that mess. If his involvement had any weight whatsoever, it would have been out by now, and a case against him reopened.

I know the perception is that no one wants this job under any circumstances. That makes no sense.

Penn State was still able to hire James Franklin after all their troubles.

If the Sandusky/Joe Pa fiasco isn't radioactive why are we?

I never said he was the right choice, or the wrong choice. I did say I was not qualified to make the choice, nor to judge it, based on the facts.

I'm utterly convinced at this point that vols1707 is Schiano himself, Schiano's agent, a family member, or a Currie/Haslam mole. I don't see how one could so vehemently defend a +1 win over .500 guy this much.

Penn State was appreciative someone actually wanted to have that job. And happened to be a good coach. Icing on the cake.

UT fans are not appreciative someone was willing to come here. Their just pissed that the coaches they wanted had tracks to other jobs they had ties to, and probably had us as their backup.

In relation to the Penn State situation, it did take time and the right person to want that position.

I believe there are many coaches that want the UT job. They are likely not coaches that the administration nor the fans want.

The best solution, at this point, as someone else suggested in another thread, might be that Hoke get another year. I hope that is not the case as it still keeps, in my opinion, UT in limbo.

Because everyone in the entire country knows the Haslams are running the show, and no one wants to be associated with them, or be subject to their interference and whim.

O’brian built it and helped then Franklin came in and topped it off

You may be correct, however, what makes the Haslams any less desirable than what you find at other college football programs?

From what I’ve read, Haslam wanted Schiano at the Cleveland Browns a few years ago, but was overruled somehow, and it didn’t happen. Probably because of Schiano’s miserable NFL record and reputation from former players.

In the meantime, GS was brought on to Ohio State, as Myer was also a friend. With the unavoidable and eventual Butch meltdown at UT, along comes Haslam again, this time with Currie in his pocket, and another behind the scenes “buddy hire” was arranged to bring him to Tennessee.

We don’t need anymore “buddy hires.”

There’s other options out there, and there are quality coaches that are interested in Tennessee as a destination. Disregarding the Penn State baggage that supposedly sealed his fate, GS would have had a difficult time at Knoxville for more than one reason. He was not a good choice, in my opinion.
