No coach in a comfortable position is going to take thia job right now. The backlash yesterday was a symptom of a terrible hire, but it was still backlash the likes of which no coach has ever seen.

We're going to have to take a chance on someone so it might as well be one of our own.

There are plenty of "white knight" coaches out there who want to be a hero and step into what seems like an impossible position and turn it all around. I worry that Currie can identify those coaches however.

imo it's an easy pitch. I'd say let's talk and I want to show you something.

I would ask if it's ok to release that we are in serious talks, say Campbell, and see the reaction to it. Campbell was a possibility, which is why I used his name.

it'll be glowingly positive. we all know it. and I'd say, I'll offer you 6m, payy your buyout, and the buyout for the first 3 years will be high then roll quickly lower based on expectations. that should negate issues with taking the job.

From the staples article....

Some coaches who would have been interested in the Tennessee job probably crossed the Vols off their list after Sunday. That’s actually fine for Tennessee. As someone who has lived in Knoxville and covered the program, I’m convinced those coaches wouldn’t have the stomach to succeed as Tennessee’s coach. They would have failed anyway, so it’s probably better for everyone involved that Currie now will get to choose from a self-selecting sample of coaches willing to deal with a lot of passion and at least a little bit of nuttiness.

I can't believe there are still people in there seriously all-in on the Gruden train. Last I saw, there were people trying to say Schiano was a smokescreen and we never really offered.

The delusion in that thread is real and freak may need to hire a full-time psycho-therapist to moderate it going forward. It's amazing that, even now, they can't see how hard they were trolled.

Gruden is like a religion to the people still hanging on. To them, he is the savior and he is coming as prophesized. Evidence be damned

It will be positive here but not everywhere. Had a few foolish friends complaining last night that brohms name was mentioned. They said 6-6 ain't going to cut it. Going to be ignorance everywhere.

I think this is key. Isn't it possible that there are several coaches out there who see this as a potential hero situation where they come in and galvanize the fan base that has seen the potentially awful side of this hire (Schiano)?

Talking heads would be bashing us one way or the other. Either we are a sad miserable fan base because we pitched a hissy fit, or we would be continuing the horrible culture by hiring a coach that covered up years of child molestation. We were never going to win in this situation which makes it even more mind boggling! I was in Currie's corner after the baseball hire but this is either negligence, incompetence, or he was straight intimidated. In any case, he does not deserve to be the AD at our university because we deserve a smart conscientious strong AD. He should be gone today and David Blackburn should be installed before the afternoon rush hour.

Haslam won't allow that to happen

People come at Ainge with the "State run Radio" he just came off the rope. He said I will tell all of you right now, Fulmer and Peyton were not asked for ANY input. Currie didn't want Schiano. Currie wanted Mullen and had his eye on him the entire time. Once that didn't happen "one person" told Currie who he was going to hire.

All common knowledge but Ainge just laying it out.

curious why CBS had a story released yesterday morning though. there are so many things in this search that don't make sense to end at Schiano. it's bizarre.
