Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

Can someone explain to me why the Haslams want us to be terrible? To have "yes men" in the AD rather than "right men for the job"? Serious question, my wife just asked me how it benefits them for them to have control but us be terrible, and I don't have a logical answer. Anyone?
Pure speculation and putting myself in their shoes: They have "!@#*&(!% you" money and want influence within the program so that their boots are licked and well polished by those that do their bidding (and yes, at their own expense). Everyone likes a good compliment--some people just have to pay for them.

No more updates. Sorry.

I feel extremely betrayed tonight. On a whole lot of levels. I'll still be here, post here, but as my favorite gif says, playtime's over.

Hope you change your mind overnight but if not, I’m sure everyone will understand. Still I for one hope you drop the ball and put on some gloves.

I kept asking and could never get a straight answer...

What was Sexton's view of TN hiring someone that wasn't his guy...

And did Haslam just roll over at that meeting and say here, take the football program?

Gruden will be the coach, and I personally cannot wait to get the details and truth about today's events.

Fulmer has told people that he's had essentially 0 involvement with the process and that Currie hasn't consulted him at all. Said the fans knew as much as he did.

I saw a guy once who paid women to hit his junk with a wiffle ball bat for pleasure. Same way the Haslam's like to watch football. IMO

Something tried to tell me that Currie's smug little smirk at the press conference was him laughing at the idea of Gruden.

Totally felt the same, but held out hope that Currie couldn't be so ignorant as to basically give everyone the F You smile. He looks like a snake and I should have spoken up before now...not that it would have mattered.

T-DAY

"Good evening. Over the last several hours Vols fans joined others from around the world. And we launched the largest Volnation retaliation in Vols History! “Volnation.” That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today came after an embarrassing loss to Vandy, and we were once fighting for our program… Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist and to thrive again in the SEC East. And should we get a coach worthy of wearing the Power T. This day will be remembered. It was this day Vols fans every where declared, We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate T Day!”

Please don't put me in any kind of "insider" status. I have not and likely never will have contacts within the UT AD or booster realm for that sort of thing. Nor have I ever implied I have any kind of information others do not have.

I have relied on things I've picked up here as my information source just like you. I just packaged it up for all to see.

We enjoyed the packaging you provided!

I thought MOU's were never binding, just basically used to get details of what would be signing if decide to sign official contract?

It depends on the language. Technically, if there is an offer and acceptance, along with consideration from both sides, you have a contract.

Usually, a MOU will address this issue by stating that there are still material terms to be negotiated, and the MOU is not a binding contract.

Haven’t caved. Just have no clue what happened in the last 48 hours.

Some House of Cards $hit is going on in the AD and it’s going to ruin our program.

It looks to me like The House of Haslam went off the reservation and made a move on their own with the Schiano attempt. Currie simply did their bidding out of the eye of the other big $ money boosters.

I would venture to say that this was a power play made by the House of Haslam that has actually backfired in a tremendous and unexpected way. This almost hire can only be traced to the Haslams as Jimmy Haslam wanted to hire Schiano at the Brown's almost three years ago.

They should not be allowed to get away from this. This shows how inept the House of Haslam is at sports. Haslam should be required to dish out the money that Schiano is now claiming that he is owed.

Haslam Haslam Haslam.

Screw them!

He never trolled anyone. You guys trolled each other with these goofy threads. He never once said or did anything indicating a high chance of him coming to coach here. Not that I saw anyway. People saw things or heard things and spun them to fit their agenda. That’s all. Time to be real and move on.

I never have been a Grudenite. I have been told to leave this thread many time. Gruden could have ended the speculation at any time, but he clearly didn't. He enjoyed the attention and did or didn't do just enough to keep VN's hopes up. I agree its time to move on.

Currie only did the bidding of the damn Haslam family.

Schiano was Haslam's guy plain and simple - no one else made the decision - this is all Haslam!

This needs to be made clear - the Haslam family has destroyed the football program (and the Brown's are just as bad)!

I'm not on twitter but someone who is please get this out to Clay Travis about the Haslams. The media needs to be talking about them and the fact they are behind most of these horrible decisions within UT Athletics. They have to shoved aside.

Fellas I am absolutely astonished!!!

Greg Schiano has 6 winning seasons out of 11 at Rutgers with one 10 win season, all of which were back in the Big East days when the Big East was a vanilla conference. He has not been a head coach at the Power 5 level. He was run out of Tampa Bay with reports of him creating a toxic environment amongst his team.

This is the guy that we were on the cusp of entrusting with the reigns of our Vols? After we just fired Butch cause he couldn't get it done and had created a toxic environment! Oh and he also comes with being named in possibly the most publicized scandal in College Sports History with covering up the rape of little kids! Only 2 short years after getting blistered in a Title IX rape scandal!

What the He!! is Currie and company smoking up on the Hill to even have this joker as a candidate?! And to offer him potentially millions of dollars and entrust him with moving our program forward after suffering our worst season ever?

The more I look at this the more I am at a loss for words. Currie and whoever entertained this needs to be shown the door immediately. This is pure ignorance!

The Cleveland Browns. Look no further for incompetent leadership. Remember the effort for Jimmy Garoppolo, Aaron Murray? Ineptitude
