Official Gruden Thread 39

If Gruden announced today, we’d be clamoring for him to start wooing Kirby’s recruits tomorrow. But that seems foolish given the fact that Gruden has fostered more good will from fellow coaches than perhaps anyone else in football. Imagine the cover story of AJC reading:

“Legendary coach, Jon Gruden, introduces himself to the SEC by stealing last-minute recruit from Kirby.”

That might work for Kiffin, but not Gruden. He’ll handle his introduction with the utmost respect for his future rivals. No sh%t-talking. No late-hour living room visits. To do this, the announcement will need to be as late as possible, but not so late that he loses recruits. My guess is that around December 11th we’ll get the first solid reports that he’s been hired, followed by an announcement on the 18th.

LOL thinking Gruden would be polite and not steal a recruit. Hahaha

The one thing that has me confident that Gruden is the candidate, is the lack of rumors from Tennessee insiders suggesting any other coach is a candidate. The only mentions from people who could possibly know are about Gruden, and then a second possible backup plan.

What is reported is the various fan and media personalities speculating and providing their OPINIONS on the candidates that SHOULD be considered, and why. No one in the Media is reporting that these candidates actually have been contacted or interviewed for the Tennessee position.

Now think about this. How many articles have been published regarding the Florida Football search? Various Media sites are on the record saying that Florida has actually contacted Frost, Kelly, and Strong. Why aren't these same media sources stating that Tennessee has contacted only of these same candidates, or others. If Tennessee was contacting other candidates there would be news about it in some form or another, outside of forums.

In regards to the Mullen rumors: read this Paragraph:

"Paul Finebaum and Nick Saban are both represented by the same powerful sports agency, CAA. Finebaum’s agent, Nick Kahn, and Saban’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, often work together. Surely someone will wonder, ‘ is this Sexton planting an item with one client, in hopes of getting more money for another client?’"

ref:
Nick Saban Has Had a Contract Extension on His Desk For Six Days Now, Paul Finebaum Reports [UPDATE] | The Big Lead

Think about this. CAA is known to leverage their "talent" to generate speculation and value for coaches they represent.

Lets Start with this:

Dennis Dodd's article about Sexton.

Man behind the money - CBSSports.com

Dodd pumps up Mullen.

It's time for Dan Mullen to embrace his moment and leave Mississippi State - CBSSports.com

Dodd throws Shade about Tennessee and Gruden:

Tennessee has serious concerns about Jon Gruden as a coaching candidate - CBSSports.com

If you cant see that CAA, i.e. Sexton isn't putting out a coordinated effort to get their guys better contracts at the expense of the Tennessee coaching search then you are absolutely blind.

Gruden is the guy until he turns us down. Period.

At this point it's Gruden, a miracle on the river (Peterson, Patterson level hire) or a complete and total failure by Currie. No more options are left. I'd put Kelly to Florida at 90 percent. It was generally reported that we didn't even entertain him because he's quirky or whatever. Meanwhile we're looking at Urban part 2 at UF while we go to war with a Google State coach, if we don't land a monster hire.

Currie being picked over Blackburn may be the decision that finally puts the program so deeply in the grave that it can't crawl out.

FYI...Kelly is not going to Florida. Spurrier already said the coach they are after is still coaching. Kelly will land in UCLA and you can bank on that!

Gruden to the HILL!

:loco:

Soon!

Not sure if serious? Recruiting is not a "gentlmen's" game. You try to flip as many recruits as you can. Period. Any and every coach/team does it.

If you read correctly, I apologize if reading comprehension isn't your strong point, it says that Gruden wanted to clear the air tonight but Currie wishes he not make an official declaration that he has turned down the job. This makes it seem like Currie doesn't have to go to 2nd, 3rd, 4th options. Clearly a power move.
It's a lie that Gruden wants to do that. Whether that's a lie made up by you or "your contact in the AD". How's that for reading comprehension?

If Gruden says no, you can't put that on Currie! Based on what we believe, he has backed up the truck and given it his best shot!

I trust what AV has told us.

I put a lot more on the reports that Kelly wasn't pursued. Though Jimmy Hyams just gave his new top 4 after the weekend and he said surprisingly, Kelly was now in the top 4. So who knows.

I miss the Updates. Understandably, the threads move much faster than before and doing them would be incredibly difficult. But, I miss them nonetheless.

Being nostalgic for a moment, I miss the old days. The vibe in here was quite different then. Less other coaches, far more wonder and mystery.

I can't help but feel that we are coming to the end of our journey. There's a certain sadness that comes with the end.

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

The appropriate hire will cure all endings. The end of mediocrity, the end of incompetence, the end of excuses, the end of bricks/cinder blocks/etc., the end of cliches, the end of "reps," the end of being flung under the bus, the end of flat tops, and most importanlty, the end of ***** (I will not say or spell his name).

The one thing that has me confident that Gruden is the candidate, is the lack of rumors from Tennessee insiders suggesting any other coach is a candidate. The only mentions from people who could possibly know are about Gruden, and then a second possible backup plan.

This is remarkable work.

Bravo!

Got it, well you can believe what you want. If you believe that Gruden has 4 courtesy cars, 25 season tickets, and the AD wants a slow leak of info that's on you.

What did he say? I didnt hear anything about this.

"Hey @TonyBasilio, what do you think happens to the HOH if they take another one of their buddy Sexton’s C grade clients? #EmptyNeyland was a warning shot that can VERY quickly become a powerful movement. Currie and HOH know they can’t afford that risk."
