I don’t see how a timeline would work with hiring Harbaugh. I don’t think he’d leave his team until after the season and we aren’t waiting that long.

That and I don't think JG would embarrass the University like that. Not sure how he would convey to the UT fanbase that he wouldn't take it, but I highly, highly doubt he would do it like that.

Agree.

I have no clue when it would happen, but if he is coming, I think this Friday would be as good a time as any.

I would not at ALL be surprised to hear something in the next 48 hours putting the Gruden talk to rest and tempering the expectations of the fan base that are convinced he is coming and setting the stage for the actual hire. Some will love it, some will hate it but that is true with any hire. I know of at least one recruits dad who has been told, directly from "Dr. Currie" as he said, a hire will be announced on or before December 10th (probably before) and to not listen to the Gruden talk in the media and that we will be getting a top notch coach that knows how to win in the SEC. (Didn't say the name but sounds a LOT like Dan Mullen)

The AD knows what is going on and hears all the call ins and the fact you cannot hear the word Tennessee mentioned in a broadcast without the mention of Gruden. It has reached a level of belief that has taken on a life of its own. The LAST thing they want is for recruits to be expecting a hire that looks like it is not going to come to fruition.

At this point they know they have to address it as an official hire draws near imo. They cannot announce Mullen (Most likely imo), Patterson (possible but not super likely) or Norvell (vomit, not likely I HOPE) without first tempering fan expectations.

That rules Mullen out..He's not top notch and he's lost more than he's won in the SEC.

BC just said JG will parachute into the stadium during halftime of the Vanderbilt game wearing nothing but an orange tie, whilst guzzling a bottle of gentleman jack and playing the solo to stairway to heaven one handed on a makeshift guitar made of the old blue and orange beer barrell from the UK series!

I'll accept your apology Wednesday night

Just trying to be level-headed here and also want to preface that I am 100% in on Gruden being our coach and football savior. However, I absolutely do not believe JG will utter one word about the UT job while on air for MSESPN tonight. Truthfully, given the horrible ratings for MNF, they want the Grumors to continue for as long as possible to increase their ratings. I, for one, will not be watching a bunch of unpatriotic, overpaid NFL players just to pick apart every comment made by JG to obtain a sliver of hope of his eventual signing at UT...with all that being said, GRUDEN TO THE HILL...SOON!!

sounds like this train is about to derail HARD....no positive news it several days. Sexton's name heated up a lot. Why did we ever ever get our hopes up that we would make a good hire.......

Sexton's name and his clients are coming up like crazy because it's what he's gotten rich doing. Why do you think Nick Saban's name came up a few years ago at Texas? It's what Sexton (and any good agent) does.

Confirmed

If not Gruden, Patterson, or any of the other names that we are hearing (Mullen, Norvell, Campbell, etc.) Frost will be my number 1.

I'm sorry....Butch had a vastly more qualifying resume than Scott Frost. He's done nothing worthy of a Blue Blood SEC program. I'm certain he's a fine individual and may be a homerun someday, but now is not the time for a hire with 2 years HC experience at a non-P5 program.

SIAP but I thought this post from VQ was interesting..

Space Toast-

"'m friends with the Haslam family (my wife especially). One of my best friends also happens to be one of their pilots. I've known Charlie Anderson since I was five (he was my soccer coach) and I'm good friends with his son. I know Sharon Pryse very well. I most likely have a meeting was Raja Jubron in the next week or so. I'm friends with some of the top people at the Vol Network. I know Carmen Tegano well.

I say all that to tell y'all that even with all those "connections" I don't have any legitimate sources. I would never seriously ask any of them for inside info (except for the pilot...trust me...I've worn him out...he isn't talking), and I seriously doubt any would disclose something secret if I did.

I was heavily invested in the '12 Grumors and caught a lot of flack on the board for what I posted. It was a lot closer than most people believe. This time I've stayed as pessimistically optimistic as possible and avoided posting anything I've heard, because none of it is first hand from a reliable source.

I've heard plenty of chatter about Dale Jones being on Gruden's staff from a person who got it third hand. I've heard about Tee Martin third hand, etc.

What I've heard/seen is a bunch of cackling hens swirling to a level of hysteria unmatched by anything other than the Salem witch trials. The epic Calhoun's photo yesterday trolled the hell out of me...bit it hook, line, and sinker.

But damn this is fun...much more fun than the product on the field over the last decade (62 wins and 62 losses).

I did hear a story (firsthand...not from anyone listed above) that I think some of you might enjoy...there was a poster on the "Feelslike98" forum who went by the handle "Tommy Basilico". Tommy's batting average for information was right at 1.000...nobody knows if he actually works/worked in the athletic department, but he certainly knew what he was talking about. So his posts began to draw attention from other folks within the AD (supposedly Butch had people monitor message boards), and they contacted the Feelslike98 administrators offering gifts of tickets and parking passes to reveal his IP address. That overture was declined, so then Butch's minions threatened the website's admins (which went nowhere). Tommy Basilico decided the heat wasn't worth it and deleted his account...until Butch was fired.

He's posted a couple items but they are all hedged with a clear statement that no information is being disseminated from the athletic department...the message discipline from Currie is unprecedented. Most of what we're seeing/hearing is either stuff the trolls have invented, or being fed by the various agents (Lamonte/Sexton) hoping to create whatever narrative best helps their respective clients.

With that said I feel sorry for Brent & Co...a carousel of coaching staffs and AD's over the last decade has probably left them with very few true "inside" sources...especially when you consider the most recent coach was vindictive to any press he perceived as "attacking" him.

Enjoy the ride...considering all the smoke around this thing, I think the longer it goes the better the chance of landing the white whale. Time will tell.."

Meanwhile Cade Mays is posting pics on twitter of him in a Clemson uniform. Doubt a Mullen type hire will pull him away from Dabo.

Let me first say I still believe Jon Gruden will be the next coach. There's reason to doubt that, and I've never claimed it as a 100% fact, but I trust where I've heard this.

Secondly, let me say that if it was not Gruden, I think Mullen is a solid hire. Not going to go through all the reasons why, but he can develop talent and if he surrounded himself with great recruiters, could be a great fit.

But lastly, I think there is VERY little chance Mullen leaves MSU for ANY job. He's comfortable there. The expectations are low. He's 1 year away from being their all-time winningest coach. 7-8 wins a year and they'll build a statue of him. He could stay there another 10 years at $5M or so. Would he really trade that to go somewhere he could make a little more, but also may only survive 3-5 years? Doubt it. He loves Starkville. His family loves Starkville. He's staying put.

All valid points imo. Only counterpoint is highly competitive coaches sometimes jump at the opportunity to compete for championships over comfort.

Who's your list Boro if not Gruden or Patterson?
