Texas has been irrelevant for almost as long as Tennessee and they still get their pick of coaches.

Why is Rocky Top the only place that has to accept mediocrity?

The previous 2 administrations put us at this level. I'm confident in Currie. He's different from the last 2 idiots running the show.

I get you. I just believe we are far past halftime unfortunately. I will never quit hoping but have completely quit believing. I really thought this might actually happen this time. I expect we will know something very soon that will end speculation.

The BasketVols are heading to Bahamas with Currie in tow. You think he doesn't have his guy? If he didn't, you think he'd be celebrating with some sun & fun with signing day around the corner? #GrudenToTheHill

But Jon Gruden held him back. Probably made it a condition of agreement that the announcement would not be made until the last game has been played. Out of respect for the sitting coaching staff. That's just a big part of who Jon Gruden is, professionally.

As for "giving Currie a chance for someone else," that would only be a factor if Currie needed to go get someone else. But he doesn't, because Jon already signed on (see an earlier post of mine for the logic train).

So the date is probably set. And it's probably next Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. My guess would be Monday, but could be wrong.

Hey JP! Loved your logic train post! I’m currently in the place where I’m unsure he’s accepted the offer. While I appreciate Gruden’s respect for other coaches, it does seem to cast an air of suspicion for me that he’s still on the fence for the job.

Personally, I feel that JG has a lot of love and respect for the UT program. A lot of big Vol guns have been pulled out to sway his decision. But, I also feel if he’s really aware of the hype and frenzy he would want to let the fans down easy IF it’s a “no”.

I’m holding out for the yes. Fingers crossed that we receive the news soon and that it’s positive. It’s hard not to feel so invested in this hire when we can all see the light that Gruden would bring to Tennessee.

I’ll accept your optimism and jump on the train! It’s him till it ain’t!

There will be drama, sure. Some people will feel their nerves fraying with the continued stress of not knowing. There will be rollercoaster rides.

Didn’t we just renegotiate a buy out of a coach that we said the same thing about just to get him out of here ? I saw a quote this morning in another thread that hit home that said” Butch inherited a dumpster fire and left a dumpster fire “ . I believe we are at a point in UT history where we need more than a “ Game manager” or a coach that we “ could do worse “ if it’s him . IMHO

if we end up with Mullen we just got Butch Jones #2. he may be better as a coach/person but his record isn't much better

He said that he heard Currie wanted Gruden to not officially turn down the position, and that Gruden wanted to clear the air tonight on MNF. He said the AD knows that the Bucs are aiming Gruden and there is interest on both sides. That comment that Gruden made that he wanted to respect the coaches was geared towards Dirk Koetter.
