H4G's explanation of MOU's is correct.
my $.02 and TIFWIW...........Gruden is taking the job and out of respect of his potential staff getting bombarded with speculative questions with a week left in the season, hes holding off the announcement until next week. No denial and too much smoke is out there.
Never had to sign one. But, I've been around when a few were drafted and signed.
I like you're discussion of the MOU on the cocktail napkin a while back. It's 100% accurate. It can be incredibly informal.
Even in this case. Currie could have scribbled on a post it note:
$8,000,000 a year
%50 buyout going both ways
Loads of perks.
$6,000,000 per year for staff.
I'll give you a back rub once a month.
If they both sign it, that's an MOU.
Too much has been made of the MOU, I think. It's a clear first step, but it doesn't really mean much.
Anybody gotta link of the clown chasing Currie around, I was out of the loop most of the day and missed it.

This has given me my hope back. Thank you OP.Trust me, I'm a fan like you so I completely understand the hopeless feeling. Just realize that Atlanta is an incredibly good guy who we frankly don't deserve to have. To have a fairly influential booster taking time out of his day and business interests to give us updates is something very few fanbases have. He's never going to purposely mislead us, and he is getting his information firsthand unlike every other "insider" here including me.
I think if AV didn't feel somewhat close to 100% confident then he would do everything he could to soften the blow. The last thing they want is for this Grumor Volcano to continue to bubble over if it wasn't a realistic possibility. No one involved in this would want unrealistic expectations that cannot be met as it would only lead to an unhappy and restless fanbase. It does seem from his post however that this deal isn't signed despite what people (including me) have heard.
My one word of advice as a fan is to pay close attention to Jon Gruden tomorrow. He will undoubtedly be directly asked by the Seattle and NFL media about this opening, the Raiders, and the Bucs. If he has decided over the weekend that he is no longer interested then he'll put it to rest. Tomorrow starts a new media cycle & no sane non-narcissistic person would allow this to go on for another cycle if it is over. That would not only be unfair to us, but more importantly Cindy and his son who is at UT.
Lastly, I believe this quote from AV's post is very important and lines up with what almost anyone with legitimate info has said: Timing is a huge issue with this hire regardless of whether Gruden has said yes or not.
