Yeah the whole time I was waiting for a national media person to give credence to the Grudenstory and none ever did. They almost unanimously shot it down.

The thing is it hasn’t been unanimously shot down. Actually, it’s only a small minority who have tried to shoot it down.

100 percent on Gruden train. He doesn’t bring up Rocky Top in interview yesterday when asking no college coaching questions be asked if he’s not in. You just don’t do that and I can’t get away from it.

Well we know for a fact that the pitch of all pitches was made. He was offered anything and everything. The only question is, does he want to coach football? If so, he'll be the next coach at Tennessee. If he doesn't, then he won't be. Simple as that.

But the fact that we made that type of pitch tells us that Currie wants THE top guy. I have a hard time believing we'll offer that to Gruden, and then go and get Bobo or something. No, he'll swing for the fences.

Glad that you changed your tune on Currie. I truly believe he will hire a proven HC. I think we are in good hands.

Rational thought here--- yesterday Currie and boosters almost got caught red handed so they flipped the switch to flood with negative/misinformation... They aren't planning on announcing him until after the season and yesterday almost forced their hand and might have screwed everything up... Volnation may have almost F'd it up with how close we got...

I think someone should start a simple poll, i'd be interested in seeing the opinion of the board.

A) Think we will land Gruden
or
B) Think we will not land Gruden

I still have a ton of things lining up that make me believe.

I 100% believe Catbone. I believe he was here this week. And he was here unseen. Unlike the South Carolina game where he strutted around town being a boss.

LWS confirmed that he was in East TN the week of the So Miss game. Supposedly this was predicted by Hutch 7. If it was him that said it would have then that gives credence to Hutch and the things he has said.

Gruden showed up on campus this year for a game which has never happened.

The announcement isn’t coming until 11/26 at the earliest imo. No matter who we target and ultimately hire. I think it will be Gruden on 11/28. Until then we will get misdirection and denials. Also Gruden gave the “sensitive to coaches doing their job” comment. No hire til after the season is over.

I believe that Gruden bought that house. Nobody even knew that house was on the market and then we hear he bought it. Hank brought that here before I saw it anywhere. Days before it spread as I recall.

If you believe the report by 247 then he did that interview and brought up UT after hearing our pitch. He asked to not be asked about coaching vacancies and then brings up how much he loves rocky top.

Espn is going to have to cut his pay.

He said on Eisen show that his contract is not guaranteed. You know what is? A coaching contract.

He has a huge ego and college coaches are rock stars. In the NFL, the players are the stars.

His wife is from here and his son goes to school here.

He’s been around this program more in the past 5 years than ever before.

Timing is right for him this time.

UT knows it has to go big this time. $340m renovation on deck and it’s not getting done with a mosquito hire.

I have read probably over a 100 pages of information on here, and this by far best sums up why I still have a decent level of optimism that this could happen. Everything else is just noise.

Great job of seeing through all of the junk, Ziti!

Good post from VFL92 in the Gruden thread...

From day 1, what I have heard, and said on this board, is that it's all about timing. In Currie's mind, he had a plan for how the remainder of the season was going to play out. He began working on this plan after the UGA game. The original plan was to let the season play out, and remove Butch and hire Gruden in short order. That plan got thrown off by how abysmal this season became. Remember, after the UGA game this team was still 3-2, so a bowl game was an expectation that many had. The worse the season got, the more the timeline got shaky. After the South Carolina and Kentucky losses, pressure became very intense to do something. At that point, Currie's plan was to remove Butch after the 7th loss. Giving up 50 at Mizzou was the final straw.

But Gruden also has a timeline. And it's not just about MNF and ESPN. There are other factors, like his coaching staff. He doesn't want to be announced as coach and then have to figure out his staff. It's about having the right guys, but it's also about having them from day 1 so they can hit the ground running with as much momentum as possible. So now, Currie is left in a tricky situation. Something has to give. Optimism and positive leaks reached a frenzy on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Thursday morning, it reached a fever pitch when Gruden goes on about Rocky Top on the radio. So what does Currie do in that situation? IF you knew you couldn't announce it yet, you have to begin to push a negative narrative.

Remember from his press conference, Currie said not to believe anything unless they heard it DIRECTLY from him. He said this because he knew he was going to have to buy some time, and that he was potentially going to have to push a negative agenda to calm the masses. But this way, he has deniability because we never heard it from his mouth.

At this point, you're left with 2 choices. Do you believe the sources saying the deal is dead? Or do you believe it's about timing? Do you believe Gruden trolled us with the Rocky Top line? Or do you believe he meant that genuinely?

Nick Saban at Michigan State:

6-5-1
6-6
7-5
6-6
9-2

Not saying Mullen is Saban but to say his ceiling has been reached at Mississippi State is not true. When Saban was hired at LSU it could have been said he was a .500 coach basically. Mullen is a great coach who will succeed at a larger school.

Makes a lot of sense to bring Mullen in. Just hope the reports of him ready to leave Starkville are true.
