Why would Gruden want to make one of the most important hires (and others) a guy he has virtually no familiarity with? Just bc they went to TN? I don’t see it.

A little, but I don't think he will consistently beat Kirby (this years game all the evidence I need) or if UF gets Chip he ain't beating him either, and he ain't ever going to beat Saban...ever...imo.

Bingo. He has zero connection to Tee. And Tee is barely an OC. I just don’t see that as being legit. Dale Jones maybe. Randy sanders maybe. Tee Martin no way.

I think he will be a good (but not great) coach, and not exactly what we really want. I see him as a Mark Richt/UGA at best, but never really able to get us over the hump.

Sounds good to folks right now after being bad for so long, but I promise it will get old. Just hate the dropoff from Gruden to him. Terrible.

Exactly..but hell we can at least go back to celebrating wins against Vandy, Kentucky and Mizzou most of the time, that would satisfy a lot of guys I think.

I credit the AD with going all if for Gruden and doing everything it takes. However, if Dan Mullen is the next phone call you make, and he is hired, my reaction is straight

It's like putting a bid in for a 2 million dollar mansion on the lake in Louisville, TN, and when someone else beats your bid, you're like, "Well, I guess that place off Broadway was kinda nice, so let's do it."

I wouldn't be on board with him at all personally. He has to be the absolute floor. If we get down to that level I'd rather us try to get Venables.

I know both think highly of one another. I wonder if Fulmer would prefer Patterson over Gruden.

Based on his action Gruden. Probably because he knows Gruden will lean heavily on his advice in the transition. Gruden really couldn't have a better resource everyday.

That’s a really good question.

Listening to Doug Mathews over the last couple of weeks, I almost feel like he doesn't think Gruden would be the best option. Doug and Phil shared an office together for 8 or 9 years and they do a weekly radio show together. Needless to say, they're tight. Pure speculation on my part, but if I had to guess I'd say Fulmer would rather have Patterson.

Agreed makes no sense. Plus he can hire better. The Dale jones DC thing is crap too. I can see Lb coach but he can easily get Steele or Chavis as DC with Dale being just fine as Lb. He needs his OC to be a yes man but also someone well versed in the college style offense and how to install one like a Briles or that Nc st guy people bring up.
