Mullen is without question a better coach than Butch Jones. The jury would be out on recruiting until at least his second class. I would still take my chances that he will be a better all-around leader for the University of Tennessee volunteers then we have had since middle of his career Fulmer

IF Mullen can recruit at a high level he would be pretty good, probably 9 wins a year imo

And don't forget his son goes to UT, which would make it very uncomfortable. Just say NO, I'm not interested and move on--why would they be dragging it out so much? That's what I keep going back too.

In 2012 things didn’t come close to getting as far along as they are now. Someone can correct me, but I do not ever remember hearing possible numbers for the deal from insiders. I know we saw something from Hyams or someone else not too long ago, but I don’t remember anything being put out there when the search was ongoing.

I say that to say this… We have actual numbers of a deal this time around, and the two camps who are involved are not saying anything that it’s false. I honestly believe the deal has already been signed by Gruden, and they have been flying around and contacting assistants… Maybe even getting signed MOUs from them.

One last thought… AV said yesterday was pivotal… If things didn’t happen the way they wanted them to, I would venture to guess he would have come on the board and gently let down everyone that the deal will not happen. He has been dead silent instead.

babyvol 11/22/12:

I still say 99.44%. Gruden has agreed to his part of deal, the hold up is over assistants salary. His latest request is 4.5 million a yr. Just don't see how we would lose him over a million dollars or so. Heck, we'll make that back the day he's announced in season ticket sales.

No Currie will say nothing until he confirms the new coach. Someone else would confirm it though.
Be patient. We have our man.

I’m more optimistic than yesterday. Brice/Ramey’s report + Hubbs showing up to the airport are reasons for hope. Still think it’s a likely scenario that Gruden says no, Mullen says no and we land on Norvell, though. Norvell might be a good hire, but he will have to prove it — and people won’t like that.

Whoever it is, I hope people give him a real chance.

If UT legitimately makes a “serious offer” to Gruden, why would we immediately offer Mullen if Gruden says no? Take the big money offer to Franklin or Kelly or Patterson. Seems that most favor one of these coaches over Mullen.

Franklin is staying for good there imo. I think you go after chip or Patterson before gruden but that’s just me.

Currie has been working on a list of coaches interested in the job for months.

Gruden
Mullen
Frost

is my understanding of the order in which Tennessee will work.

I know for a fact that fulmer is pushing GP. Dk if that will do anything def happening.

Oh, I'm sure he is. My guess is Patterson hasn't reciprocated the interest.

I know we've tracked UT planes to Dallas but that's a major hub. Could be talking to anyone in the Southwest. Even a guy like Chad Morris whom I assume is on the list.

We get your point man. So what are you saying? This is all made up? This is the biggest national troll job ever?

Gruden might not get hired but to deny this is a real situation is insane.

catbone on downers.
