Official Jon Gruden Thread 34

The last MNF game is Christmas night. A previous post and other sources said Currie told a recruit a new coach would be in place by Dec. 20.

FWIW the next to last MNF game is Dec 18.....Atlanta AT Tampa.

ESPN also broadcasts a Wild-card game the next weekend.

As much as we love Peyton, I don't think he will be a good coach. Based on what we hear & read about Peyton an his preparation. Don't know if he can handle players not taking the game as serious as he did/does. (if that makes sense)
I could see him with a freshman quarterback "don't have every position's responsibility in the playbook memorized?
GTFO!!!"

WNML was also THIS MORNING mocking the Grumors .... I listened until I couldn't stomach them any longer

I have stopped listening to the morning shows. They are towing the company line way to much. Being the state run media, I mean the Official Flagship Station of the Vols, they kind of have to.

A head coach in the NFL works more than a college coach. So quality of life is better. The money we are offering him is better than his NFL counterparts. Truthfully, over the past few years of running qb camps for college kids, I believe he actually likes teaching the game now. He isn't dealing with millionaire egos.

exactly. Its not like he's going to be on the road all the time recruiting either. His assistants will do that and he can come in and close it out on a home visit.

I think your confused, like many seem to be. I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade. I'm not here to fight. Like many here, I come here looking for hope. I'm just not as nieve. Am I wrong for that?

Trust me I am not confused. Reading your posts, you don’t appear to be looking for hope. If that is what you are doing, sit back, relax and enjoy the entertainment which is this thread. Almost everyone in here knows it may not happen. This isn’t about debate. It’s about a place for those who hope for all things Gruden to hang out, consume some grumors, share some laughs, and get home safely. It’s a place for us to talk about JG and not mess with y’alls other discussion. Not everyone in here is wearing a tin foil hat but we get along and have fun. Your need to poke and “enlighten” everyone is what is wrong. If you don’t like the way people are rooting for gruden, just leave. Why the need to say something negative towards them. I’m not gonna fight with you. Go Vols, have a great day... just don’t stay if you don’t like it. Save yourself the heartburn.

He's undecided and while UT is waiting, Florida is going to hire the best college coach available in Chip Kelly. Chip Kelly to Florida is equivalent to Nick Saban to Alabama. Another nightmare scenario for the Vols.

He's not coming to UT for the same reason that Kiffin isn't coming back.

Too many violations... Kelly may be a good coach but he comes with a show cause .

Currie would have to go before the SEC and tell them why he would want Kelly.

I don’t want Peyton anywhere near our sideline as a coach in any capacity. He’s our living legend and is way more valuable to us as an ambassador than a coach. He helped recruit Gruden to Tn. That’s what he does best.

UF already has that taken care of. Allegedly.

After what Jon Gruden stated this morning, a lot of things I was thinking was confirmed. First, all of these alleged people "in the know" are nothing but frauds who got a lot of people wanting Gruden all hyped up. In other words, a lot of people have been played here. I think it is funny how gullible so many people are!

To be clear, I am not opposed to Gruden being the head coach as long as he proves to be a WINNER! No sure bets on anybody but the responsibility for this hire rests on Currie ultimately. I believe this is probably the most important hire in the HISTORY of Tennessee football. We are at a crossroads.

I also think paying someone 10 million a year is ridiculous! No person who works for the public should be paid 10 million a year. However, this is the state of college football today.

Bottom line, I expect Currie to hire a WINNER and nobody will know if he makes the right decision or not for another three years. I know a lot of posters on her are frauds. I also know there are a lot of gullible people on Volnation. Finally, I think the "business of college football" has gotten out of hand and the public needs to step up!

Out of curiosity what are your predictions for the following seasons if Gruden does become the next HC given the talent level and state of our football program right now? What would be your prediction for recruiting classes in those same years.

I'll give first

2018: 7-6 to 9-3 holds together a top 15 class
2019: 8-4 to 10-2 and top 5 class
2020 9-3 to sky is the limit with another top 5 class

Just gauging what the expectations are from the fan base if he is hired. Also curious what your reaction would be if we were to go 8-4 or 7-5 in those three seasons.

I have always maintained I would love to have Gruden on the hill but also realize no one has a magic wand to fix all the problems in our program. As much as I would love to see him I do not view it as the end of the world if it doesn't happen there are several names I would be ALMOST as happy with.
