Good morning, and great analysis. I remember seeing the hunt for red October in the theater. JFK was on the other screen. I fell asleep.

I also remember my dad later referring to beating Bama as the hunt for red October. I personally just think this may have been their code name, so to speak, for this mission.

Ooh. Hadn't thought of that...of the booster & AD community having an operation code name for the coaching search. Good one, SFD.

I know no one wants to give an update of all the stuff that happened from 6pm ---> now, but can you tell me if it was a good or bad night?

Atlanta Vol's reference to The Hunt for Red October is really intriguing.

And we'll probably never understand the reference, unless he comes back after the coaching hunt is over to explain it.

But just for fun, explore the hint a bit:

-- The Hunt for Red October was all about deception and communication. The most pivotal moments of the book (and movie) came when a deceptive act was revealed through a key bit of communication (the Soviet defense minister getting Captain Ramius' note explaining his intent to defect ... and the USS Dallas' captain (Bert something) communicating the deception plan for the Red October's capture to Marius via periscope-to-periscope morse code signalling.

So maybe Atlanta is warning us not to take the bait when something big (and probably negative) is released tomorrow, to stay steady and have faith in spite of a communication that seems disappointing?

-- The book was also about a really high-tech and innovative vessel, one with a propulsion system never before successfully deployed.

So maybe Jon Gruden's high-tech and innovative approach in his study of the game of football, along with his (supposed) red hair (more true of Chucky than him, I think) have given him the "Red October" nickname in some circles? If so, it seems very few people have heard of this nickname.

Or maybe Atlanta Vol just pulled the phrase out of his subconcious. Maybe the film was playing in the background in his den while he caught up on VolNation. Maybe it was nothing more than that. Whatever the case, I for one would love to find out, after the fact, what the deal was.

One thing's for sure: if we get "bad news" later today, like during the Mike and Mike show for instance, I'm going to immediately begin scrutinizing it as a possible deception plan. :)

Go Vols!

Oh, and p.s. Good morning, everyone. :good!:

weirder and weirder this plot gets

I recall VOL92 quickly chimed in that beating BAMA was the intent of Red October. We'll find out in time.

Anyone know for sure if Gruden will do his regular Mike and Mike spot? They just announced Herby and Finebaum as guests today but not JG.

They had him listed as a guest on their Twitter account last night (this is the last week of their show). He is usually on at 0700 on Wednesdays. I'll be listening

Hopefully gone will be the days when we worry about Florida. The Big Red Elephant will once again be our main target each year!

PLEASE don't read this and run with it like AV is saying we'll hear something tomorrow. Just saying it's pivotal. We'll probably never know why.

Don't set yourself up for disappointment tomorrow.

Yes to this^ Everyone just pray His will be done on earth as it is in heaven and all will be good whichever way it goes today . Decision time is my hypothesis

Some people said he’ll never come.
Some people said he was on campus.
Some people said relax.
Some people said boom.

And Atlanta VOL offered tickets to LSU game for veterans.

Not as good (clearly) as Grand but there you go

I don’t care who the coach is. The VFL coordinator better be Inky!

I'm afraid that might be a big pay cut for Inky.

Think he makes a lot more on the inspirational speaking circuit than he could make on UT staff. Just guessing.

But you're right, he'd be a great one!

Grude morning Grudenville!

Looks like today might be an exciting day. The hunt for red October is one of my favorite movies. Sean Connery is excellent, as always.

Hold the course and stand tall. Soon!

Haibachi, Behr. What's "Gruden's Groove."

Screw you for thinking that post was too long. Even though it was.

Gruden on Mike and Mike on Wednesday mornings. Jon is a classic rock fan. They have people send in song suggestions and they play a couple of seconds of a certain one and Jon comments on it. Then they talk football.
