Official Jon Gruden Thread 34

A member of the BOT whom I have a business relationship with stated the following. He never said the name Gruden, but did say the name Patterson in reference to the backup plan.

  • They said that the AD believes they have their man but there are still a few small obstacles.
  • No contract has been officially signed, however an MoU was written and agreed upon on 11/3, and was signed on 11/12 during a meeting in Asheville.
  • There are a few small issues that are currently being worked out. These issues have less to do with UT, and more to do with the coach in question.
  • The coach has certain expectations for his staff and if he can't meet them then the AD feels like he will back out. This seems to be a major concern.
  • BOT member said there is one issue regarding his contract but wouldn't go into detail and I didn't push. They made it seem like it's a recent development in the past 1-2 days.
  • I asked and they said they think 2 assistants are being kept by the new coach.
  • If anything falls through with this coach then the AD will pursue Patterson.
  • They said Currie met with Patterson face to face recently and "it was positive".

Point 4 appears to be an issue....

Haven’t been able to log back in, got a call earlier. Gruden is on campus. May just be visiting his son, but he made an appearance at football complex.

If somebody posts a pic of him at the Complex, on this night, 8632 people reading this thread will literally shat themselves.....repeatedly

If he's on campus then I believe all obstacles have been overcome. Expect more leaks coming out tomorrow. Not sure what hang ups with staff would be except maybe him wanting to possibly keep someone already here,or maybe Sanders whose rumored to be here also.

I like the reports of him reaching out to assistants that had ties to Tennessee. Surround himself with people that are familiar with IT, keeps it in the family.

checked earlier, from Charlotte Delta has a layover in Atlanta, then goes to Tampa.

Right - if you take Delta to Atlanta from Charlotte you can get almost anywhere on Delta from there, Delta’s largest hub (that’s how hub systems work). Charlotte is an American Airlines hub.

I wonder what the expectations for the staff would be?

Better give him what he freaking expects is all i know.

Me likes Patterson as an runner up

I took it to mean he has expectations that may not be met... as in certain guys that he wants say “no thanks” (as hard as it may be to swallow for us Grudenites), or if they say yes he has expectations which are difficult to meet for their performance ..

When I was talking to him I took it more as he had certain expectations of how good of a staff he could form. If he couldn't pull the caliber of talent he wanted from other schools, then he would back away from the deal.

Thanks

I could see that. It'd be hard to imagine someone that Patterson would play 2nd fiddle to, having any trouble putting an ACE staff together of almost anyone he wanted as long as UT forks over the $$$. The white whale especially.

I hope this deal dont get d**** up.

Thanks for the info pill. :good!:

This has an air of truth to it. There are bound to be a few snags to overcome with a guy like Gruden that you normally wouldn't have with another college coach. Asheville is right smack between Charlotte and Knoxville, and you could drive there to meet to avoid the risk of being seen in an airport.

I also like the idea of going after Patterson should the deal fall through.

Kudos to you, OrangePill, for sharing this. I hope it doesn't cause you any trouble!
