I disagree. He flat out said don't believe anything until you hear it from me. All this jabber is on the fans and media.

Records can be a bit deceiving.

When looking at expectations extrapolated from talent, Mullen has consistently performed significantly above talent expectations. Chip Kelly, on the other hand, has not. Kelly’s record is much better, but his teams were top three in talent in the PAC. If memory serves, he hung around performing right to talent expectations (trading a win against A more talented, but hobbled USC, for a loss against a less talented Stanford, IIRC). Mullen’s teams are consistently bottom tier in the SEC in talent, and often the absolute bottom of the West.

UT needs a coach who can bring in consistent top 5 talent, and also coach to that level. I have no doubt Mullen could over perform at a significantly higher rate than Kelly (as he has a relatively long history of doing so) but I’d be very concerned with Mullen as a recruiter.

This is why, at UT, neither of those names excite me. We have some systematic disadvantages in recruiting compared to Florida that would complicate matters for either of those guys. Florida is probably a much better fit for Kelly, but I’m not certain it’s a long term answer for them either.

I seriously had something to do 2 hours ago but am just in full on blow it all off mode, f5 the thread. I don't see how you folks who aren't self employed or retired are managing to pull this off.

Mullen is NOT a big name. He's not a "home run" or even a "good" hire. He would be an overwhelmingly average hire. An improvement from Butch, but not by very much.

If we drop the ball on Gruden and hire Mullen, that will be like going to the Cadillac dealership and test driving a new Escalade, but then settling for a used Toyota Camry that someone traded in.

Again, I want an accounting of the people and websites who made fun of us. I will call these people to task when the Gruden hire is announced.

The reason I'm not worried is simple.
With the way things appear I can't help but believe Currie has an ace up his sleeve. It doesn't necessarily have to be Gruden but it better be big. If I am wrong and we get another Google search coach, then I am done. My fall Saturdays will be freed up to pursue other interests. If the leaders of the program care so little to not hire the right guy for the job? I can certainly return the favor by not giving a damn about the product they provide.
