It's well known that ESPN is looking to cut $$. Gruden may very well know that his gig there is not unlimited. He might want to try the college coaching bit for awhile and then he can come back and be in more demand than ever as a network analyst

You never know but I doubt it. If anything, he may be just getting some publicity while he can. A good agent can use it to his favor.

I actually heard some folks on local Knoxville radio defend him in this..... one said "the recruit we know he called is a lower tier recruit and he figured he might get left out when Tennessee hires a new coach, so he was doing him a favor and looking out for his well being"
