Hubbs was asked for his top 3. He gave this:
I think that's a good answer by Hubbs. Can we get Morris or Norvell? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes.
Will we at least consider the merits of Mehlen or Fisher. Yeah, but the list they are on is a longer than 2. There's probably several names that we will "consider". That's just doing our due diligence.
I think Fisher's buyout is basically equal to the combined remaining contract value of his assistants, some of which may have 2 year contracts.
Mehlin is a smokescreen. jmo.
One other point, Currie stressed integrity and character which eliminates Petrino and probably Kiffin.
Hubbs is in a difficult position and I would think one would need to read his answers carefully. We probably also need to pay close attention to the wording of any question he's responding too. He gave a couple of names he (and everybody else) thinks they CAN get and a couple more names they may look at.
If Hubbs says this is who I think they will get or if he provides an exhaustive list of who he thinks we can get them maybe we have something to discuss.
If Hubbs thought at the moment it was 50/50 on Gruden do you really think he would tell us that? I don't. Not yet. I don't think he would flat out lie to us but I do think he'd be evasive and try to move the conversation to a different topic. He's in the information management business and needs to avoid creating complications for Currie - if he wants to maintain any semblance of access. jmo.
Currie doesn't want the name put out there until the man is introduced at the podium. Even if Hubbs had a pretty good idea of who that might be he is not going to cross Currie on that.
