Hubbs was asked for his top 3. He gave this:

I think that's a good answer by Hubbs. Can we get Morris or Norvell? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes.

Will we at least consider the merits of Mehlen or Fisher. Yeah, but the list they are on is a longer than 2. There's probably several names that we will "consider". That's just doing our due diligence.

I think Fisher's buyout is basically equal to the combined remaining contract value of his assistants, some of which may have 2 year contracts.

Mehlin is a smokescreen. jmo.

One other point, Currie stressed integrity and character which eliminates Petrino and probably Kiffin.

Hubbs is in a difficult position and I would think one would need to read his answers carefully. We probably also need to pay close attention to the wording of any question he's responding too. He gave a couple of names he (and everybody else) thinks they CAN get and a couple more names they may look at.

If Hubbs says this is who I think they will get or if he provides an exhaustive list of who he thinks we can get them maybe we have something to discuss.

If Hubbs thought at the moment it was 50/50 on Gruden do you really think he would tell us that? I don't. Not yet. I don't think he would flat out lie to us but I do think he'd be evasive and try to move the conversation to a different topic. He's in the information management business and needs to avoid creating complications for Currie - if he wants to maintain any semblance of access. jmo.

Currie doesn't want the name put out there until the man is introduced at the podium. Even if Hubbs had a pretty good idea of who that might be he is not going to cross Currie on that.

We have a shot to rewrite the lyrics to “Ice Ice Baby” to “Frost Frost Baby.”

I don’t think you guys see how awesome this would be. This is 67% of my argument

Yo VFL, let’s kick it!
Frost Frost baby
Frost Frost baby
Alright stop
Have a seat and listen
Frost is here to recruit your position
Currie, grabbed a hold of me tightly
Put pen to paper, gon set things rightly

Will it ever stop?
Yo, I don’t know
But i’ll take what you’ve got, and we’ll grow
To the extreme, I’ll score points like a vandal
Light up the field, wax Florida like a candle

Score
Rush the football with boom
Killin’ Alabama like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly
Offense like a melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it
you better gain way
You Better hit the bullseye
Cause Frost don’t play

Butch left problems?
Yo, I’ll solve it
Check out my bio
While Currie resolves it

Re: TSIO...

(1) We can’t just back out of that annual rivalry game — the whole SEC scheduling system would have to change, which would require broad support.

(2) That game has been a significant factor in our malaise. No doubt about it. Bama is currently on the most dominant run in CFB history. It is demoralizing to our program and also puts us at a real disadvantage in competing for the East.

(3) Saban will eventually leave, and when he does, Bama will become mortal again.

(4) TSIO is a permanent status marker for UT and Bama vis-a-vis, e.g., Miss St and UK.

(5) With the money in SEC football today, there is much more parity. We have to come to terms with the fact that the gulf between UT football’s resources and, say, UK football’s resources has never been narrower. That gap will probably always exist, but it just isn’t like it used to be. This is one more reason TSIO sucks right now — in 3 of Butch’s 5 years, we played a top-5 type non-con game, plus we played Bama every year. Most of these other teams didn’t do that. We also frontload our schedule. It just means that when we aren’t great, we lose games early on and sit at the bottom of the SEC standings all year and then go into November beat down and with targets on our backs for the lesser SEC programs.

At the end of the day, I don’t want to do away with TSIO — I just want Saban to go away. But I also think that the SEC should change the rules so that the cross-division games are only a tie-breaker (after H2H) for purposes of determining division champions.

Your closing point is compelling

Georgia hired a coordinator. UF hired a coordinator and then a minor leaguer. LSU struck out on the guys they wanted and got stuck with a retread who was acting as interim. Those are three better SEC jobs than ours and none of them have been able to hire a so-called top tier candidate in recent years.

Hiring is hard. Taking someone else’s proven winning coach is hard. It’s not just Tennessee that’s had trouble.

So many people don’t realize this. That’s why I’ll keep an open mind even if it’s someone totally out of left field.

If it comes down to Morris or Norvell, and Marrone is interested. Than I hope they wait for Marrone, even if it means this year's class falls apart.

Should be worth considering. I like Morris, but I think he wants to be in Texas. He might be able to turn our offense around quickly with the players we have though.

I’m not sold on Norvell at all. I’d give him a chance, but unless we surround him with a killer staff, I just don’t see it from him. He might at least have sway with some West TN recruits at least.

The think I like about Marrone is that he seems like the type of coach who wouldn’t be a push over like Butch when it comes to establishing a culture.

I seriously hope Frost turns out to be a dud if we don't make a run at him. It will suck if we don't get him and he does turn out to be the next coaching superstar.

It would be the typical UT luck thing though...We hire Mehlan because he is "safer" while Nebraska hires Frost and he proceeds to restore the downtrodden Husker nation to Osborne era glory..Meanwhile..after seven years we fire Mehlan with one SEC east title and 3-4 bowl record including one Sugar Bowl appearance, a 39-25 sec record and overall 63-36 record...

If Nebraska hires Frost this season, I won’t spend one second worrying about it. He wouldn’t have chosen TN over Nebraska anyways. If we pass and he moves on later, I will angry

That’s a possibility with Bama as our annual cross division rival.

Nick kinda beat me too, but if Frost goes to Nebraska over all the SEC jobs (and UCLA) opening up over the next few weeks, then he was going to be going to Nebraska all along and was a pipe dream anyway.
