OK...My first post. I was awaiting Freaks clearance so I had this prepared for yesterday....I am going to let her go ....

First of all a BIG tip of the hat to all of our veterans. We all owe you a huge debt of gratitude!

As a new member but a long time follower of this site I want to share why I am joining now......

I grew up like all kids in Knoxville a huge Vol fan. That all escalated one summer afternoon when a family from south Ga. moved into my neighborhood and later asked me if I would like to mow their yard. Mr. Bennett said the “payment” would be a ticket to UT football games. He was Buddy Bennett, defensive back coach for the Vols. Little did I know, that ticket would be a pressbox ticket sitting with the coaches !!! What a DREAM for a 10 year old kid!!! Side note, were you aware there used to be a cable that ran from the pressbox to the sidelines that was used to send Polaroid pictures??

I have followed this board forever and have never been one to post. I love reading and following all things that pertain to UT. After the GA game, I opened this thread and began reading it, I became intrigued, I became addicted, and quickly I became a GRUMOR!!! And I was and am PROUD of it!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are turning the page to a new chapter of Tennessee Football and in fact sports. This changes the entire athletic department. There is a new mentality. No longer is contending for championships or winning “Google Bowls” acceptable. WE ARE HERE TO WIN SEC/NATIONAL Championships!!! AND WE ARE GOING TO DO IT !!!

I have never been one to understand or except the term “year zero”. I don’t think G does either. Like you all, I think the cork comes off tomorrow and the ball starts rolling in Knoxville. I think the official visits have been held for the LSU game. Coach G will be on the sidelines to coach AND to RECRUIT. Get ready cause the phone lines are going to start ringing of kids wanting to come and capture the excitement. This will make the final two games of the season exciting and fun for the fans as well as for the kids. These seniors need and deserve our support. In fact, coach Jones does as well. He has brought us from the depths to this point. He has represented us with class and dignity and we owe it to him and his family to do the same.

One of Pat Summitt’s notable quotes was “ Left foot, right foot, breathe”. It’s time we come back.....It’s time we become relevant agin.......It’s time.....It’s time!!! .....IT’s FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!

Now I am going to GTFO !!!! (Am I the first to tell myself to GTFO?)

So, now that that's done...

...when do we start discussing the Great Grude's staff?

That's gonna open a can of worms. Folks are gonna be bent out of shape because they don't agree with the staff. Just watch----this will happen no matter who the head coach is.

So now in the FF there's a thread saying Mike Hamilton (absolutely no relation whatsoever - I wish I had thought my screenname out a little more) is saying Scott Frost is our next coach.

I'm never leaving here again.

I was talking to my friend just now. Over the last week or so I've been telling him Gruden might actually come here and there is some serious smoke. While talking to him just a few minutes ago he said "WVLT just said Gruden canceled the meeting and turned us down". All I could do was LOL.

Did you tell him, "welcome to 2012"?

Relax. WVLT posted a tweet from 2012 about Gruden cancelling a meeting.

What actually happened was before the press conference, Ted Hall, anchor at WVLT, was filling time and was talking about how fans want Gruden. Then he said WVLT was told that Gruden said he wasn’t interested and canceled the scheduled meeting. They in no way alluded that they were talking about 2012. They worded it poorly and caused a heart palpitation in many.

No Jon Gruden. Hell no.

Every time the head coaching vacancy comes up in Knoxville, Jon Gruden's name comes up because you guys get stars in your eyes.

Gruden then floats the idea of leaving to ESPN, using it as a way to get them to give him more money to keep broadcasting. IT'S HAPPENED EVERY SINGLE TIME HIS NAME COMES UP AS A COACHING REPLACEMENT AT TENNESSEE.

Tennessee needs a head coach who recruits well, with a proven winning record and genuinely loves the Big Orange and its fans. Jon Gruden has none of those abilities or capabilities. He ain't even a good NFL commentator.

I'm sick and tired of hearing Jon Gruden's name come up every time there's a vacancy. He needs to stay where he is, and we need to get us a great coach. Gruden is not. Dude... you're not in the running. Your number ain't coming up. I will personally travel the 100 miles to Knoxville myself and lobby AGAINST you if your name comes up, and I hope you are there visiting when I do.

Quit drinking the Gruden Koolaid, Vol fans. It ain't got no sugar in it.

I'd rather have Peyton Manning. Heck, I'd rather have Phil Fulmer back, before Jon Gruden. My mother would be a better choice.... at least, she has the dignity and respect to not use the offer to get more money out of her current employer.

Your throat and fingers need to go so no one will ever know your thoughts again gtfo!

Just digesting that Press Conference and now thinking:

Let's assume we are getting Gruden. He is the voice of the NFL essentially. His departure would be a big change for ESPN. It would affect many factors of the NFL, MNF, views, sponsors, etc... At least short term. If Gruden went to ESPN letting them know, I think they would request Gruden to do so silently while giving them time to have a quick replacement, and probably adamant on the silence.

This goes along with how silent Currie has been.

It also goes with firing Butch 2 weeks before season is over, rather than end of season, or 5 weeks ago.

I'm wondering if Currie has been waiting on Gruden to give them the go ahead. Gruden has been waiting on ESPN. ESPN plans to make make changes between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Also, Currie making the specific comment "if you hear anything else other than coming from me, it's not true" is like he is thinking about HOW they have to announce this publicly and that he is waiting on something. It's common sense that the AD makes the final call and it's all rumors until then. We know that. It's like he's trying to quiet down the rumors until it's official. Out of respect for Gruden and ESPN.

I think you're thinking too much. ESPN, for as "TMZ-like" as it has become, still reports sporting news. In reporting sporting news, it's almost like a race. So whoever reports the latest and greatest "breaking news" gets to label it "first reported by 'X'". I don't think ESPN would necessarily want him to be all hush-hush about it considering the plethora of high-profile names that are already in television/commentary and the fact they'd probably be okay with it as it would lighten the load on their pockets.

Hamilton doesn’t know sh*t.

Dude has literally tried to run our program into the ground.

Anything he says at this point is dead to me.

If my son asked for a Lamborghini, I would give him a much different look than a smile.... more like WT* look (think Gibbs on NCSI). Now he did ask recently for a pickup truck and I did give him a little laugh... and now my wife is talking real seriously about getting him a truck. Never count Gruden out until he's out.

I understand those who saw more in this than I did, but sometimes we want something so bad we read things into it that are just not there.... again I hope I am wrong... not trying to be a downer but just how I see it

I do think however the fact that Currie is NOT hiring a search firm is GOOD NEWS on the GRUDEN front and that is solid to me

i hope this early public firing (if it was meant to be at seasons end) will speed up the process due to the early signing period.

if no announcement (in the off chance it is not gruden) relatively soon then i’d think we are waiting on gruden to be free or available or whatever if there is some sort of timeline on his end.

don’t see them dragging this out long if gruden is truly not in the running. early signing period is fast approaching and too many recruits up in the air.

You sound as though you would benefit from a mood stabilizer and a glass of wine!

With the reports of Butch calling recruits, doesn't sound like he knew this was coming. Sounds resentful.

great 1st post and welcome aboard......Question, why did you need Freak's approval to post?

I received some type of email from him where I had to await his approval.....you know Freak is the Man!!

Lol. It's funny that it's come to us trying to read him but he certainly didn't seem nervous or like he didn't have a plan. It was a very confident presser
Man has an active head that's for sure. If I were playing no hold-em against him I'd fold, sucka has pocket aces.

No one did. No one said they saw the MOU. Only speculated that it could’ve been signed.

So this didn't get posted by Beaver?

"It wasn’t a question of if but when they would fold. Hence my 100% confidence throughout this process. The only uncertainty was of Gruden wanted the job, thankfully he did."

Doesn't sound like speculation. Again, whether Gruden does or doesn't come here is beside the point. You are incorrect in your assertion that no one has said the deal was done because they have. Did you ever compile the list of insiders or define what an "outside insider" is?

I know that many who come in here to ask questions are generally only mocking, but some (including myself) are looking for a reason to believe it true not looking to disprove ... O Well
You said it earlier and I resigned myself to the same feeling mid week....when he is standing on the podium !
The rest of this has been everything Vol fans could bring to the table....the Good, the Bad and the Ugly !
