I thought he didn’t take the job because he already had a great job making bank and UT wouldn’t give him the control he wanted? But it was really that he was scared?

I mean, I think those are the same things. Scared of the work required. Scared of failure.

Hell, I'm not attacking the man's character. I wouldn't leave that job to work 355 18 hour days dealing with teenagers.

People like to give Hyams ish, and rightfully so. But he is indeed right more than these message board "insiders".

Absolutely agree that the longer this season plays out, the less attractive this job becomes to potential coaches. Thing is I don't think an interim fixes that. The damage has been done.

He needed to be fired after the Kentucky game as the latest. I am a negavol if he ever coaches another game. I have 0 faith in Currie. I wanted Blackburn. Currie may redeem himself with a good hire however this crap show would not be attractive enough for a good coach to take. Just my opinion but I think Butch right now has us to where Dools did on the field. At least APR is better but with early signing period this time around, this job looks like a career killer. It all started with the change of how the administration structure changed a few years ago. I would not want to work for these idiots so why would a good coach want to do so. We are a laughing stock in so many ways. We are 12-14 ranked right now. In the SEC. Let that sink in.

But that’s not what Jimmy was saying 5 years ago. Just like now he was saying it wasn’t a possibility.

Didn’t Jimmy claim for 5 years that Gruden was never a possibility? Yesterday he was on the radio before the game was saying that he knew that last time around UT offered him a 6 million for 5 years deal. Which is it Jimmy?

Like I said before, if you're going to offer Gruden 10.2 million/year (supposedly), that will buy just about any Current college coach you want, with maybe the exception of Saban, and Peterson (doesn't like the limelight and wants to stay on west coast).

Don't get your panties in a wad just because this season is an embarrassment.

Coaches know when there is turmoil during a season, kids quit and so do coaches.

That amount of money could attract

I'm no order of course and you're not going to spend 10.2 on these but the money is there. And some y'all won't like but could turn out to be great coaches.

Patterson
Mullen
Frost
Patrino
Wittingham
Brohm
Taggert
Franklin
Dino
Stoops
Gundy
Campbell

Some may already be interested. When you start putting those kinds of figures out there, anyone will listen. Just got to get the right coach in here and quickly (Dec. 20th).

Not good. I was prepared to give Currie some leeway but he is clearly demonstrating he isn't competent. I seriously doubt he has anyone lined up and I will be shocked if Gruden has any real interest. I have google ready to look up the new hire. If Currie cared about the fans at all he would have handled this whole change differently.

What is he saying? I can't listen

*Came out and said for the first time that we'll have a new head coach next year. As conservative as Doug is that makes me think we could hear something today or tomorrow
*Very critical of the coaching staff. We don't develop players, play the wrong ones when some of the backups obviously have more talent, etc.
*Said the next guy needs to be a coach. Spelled it out C-O-A-C-H. Basically went on to say the last three guys we've had haven't been that. Need someone who can develop talent and is a really good in game coach. Kind of took a shot at Jones, at least it's how I took it, and said the best head coaches let their coaches coach. Explained how Majors and Fulmer were good in all of those areas.

I think you make a good point here that's encouraging to think about. Smart coaches won't let the way this season has unraveled define us in their mind. Every coach that gets fired has a series of wheels are off moments. This program clearly has a leadership void. That should be obvious to the candidates.

Exactly. People are panicking and I understand the reasoning, because of previous coaching hire blunders. But the AD can make it right by spending the money and getting a proven HC, or a on fire up and comer.

We have outstanding facilities and Neyland. We have a Great fan base and boosters that want us to be the best. We just need to make the BEST decision when it comes to our next HC.

I know this season sucks and fans are eager to get rid of Butch, and I think it's coming today or tomorrow. But we HAVE TO MAKE THE RIGHT HIRE.

Now its beginning to look like we end with coach google his name sometime in January.
The longer this silence continues, the worse it will be imo.
Truely hope an announcement is made today:

The Tennessee coaching staff is arriving on campus to go into the office this morning for their normal Sunday workday.

AD John Currie is also on campus having arrived in the last 30 minutes.

If Currie doesn’t fire Butch before UF announces Chip Kelly as HC this place is going to implode.

I’m afraid we’ve attributed an element of savvy to Currie that he doesn’t have.

I understand the thought process of “sticking with the plan” and letting butch finish the year.

However, that’s a poor decision. And managing perception is part of his job. He can’t make decisions in a vacuum. And he can’t just not say anything. People asking “what difference does it make” need to realize that it’s not just a matter of timing, it’s about the ability to know when to execute a judgment call.

Even if he has someone locked up, it makes zero sense to let butch continue his wake of destruction. Let the players move past this. Fire jones, and give them a shot to play under someone else for a couple games. If it backfires, it backfires... but we KNOW the outcome of leaving butch in.
