I'm definitely in the Mullen camp here. Gruden might have a higher ceiling, but he is more of a risk as well. NFL to college would be tough transition for anyone, little alone someone who's been out of coaching for 10 years. I know he didn't come up with a W, but tonight's game vs Bama should be convincing enough to show what Mullen could do with 102,000 seats, Haslam money, and the big Orange nation behind him.

But who knows. We don't know enough about this to think we know exactly what he should do.

Butch was ultimately more successful than Dooley and did a good job of turning us back towards at least minimal success instead of embarrasment.

But he hit his ceiling and can’t compete at an SEC level. He is a good salesman but can’t develop a program beyond the first 3 years

This is a fair assessment, and this is around my thinking as well.
