Honestly I haven't done much hyping of Gruden, I'm just excited about the idea of it happening. And IMO, there's not enough hype around here for what would actually happen if he was announced UT's next HC. I don't think some of you understand the magnitude of JG to UT on a national scale. How it would make UT relevant instantly. How recruiting would take off like never before seen. Just imagine the staff he would put together?

What kind of national buzz would happen if Mullen, Taggart, or Brohm were introduced as the next UT HC? Not a whole lot if we're being honest. Sure, they're all upgrades but not instant WOW HOLY SHT factor that Gruden would bring.

So, again, IMO...More hype is needed, not less.

I actually agree with pretty much all of this.

He's the second best college coach in the game. Saban and Meyer are in a league by themselves IMO

That's your and most others opinion. He just got destroyed by freakin Iowa with loaded roster. You guys just judge the top end and ignore the bottom. He is a really good coach and a great con man.

Swan and Matt are in. What about JAV?

Larry is gonna need to see the podium before he goes to 51%.

IIRC, JAV has been saying that he knows the boosters are going all in on Gruden, much like what LWS has said. I don’t think I have seen much about a percentage or anything like that but he might have. I would say he’s optimistic about the efforts, not sure about the chances.

Exactly. Like the poster earlier that implied that if Gruden wanted to coach he could have any NFL job he wanted. Lol. No. If he wanted to coach and could have gotten a good NFL job over the last decade he would have taken it. NFL GMs are not calling him offering him every NFL job. The real Gruden and the Gruden that UT fans have created in their mind are not even close to the same.

Of all the retread coaches in the NFL you think Jon Gruden couldn't have gotten a job in the last ten years. Wow, just wow

This recruiting class is going to be just fine with a good to great hire as long as the new hire is made right after Vandy game or sooner. I stopped paying attention to recruiting after UGA. It doesn't matter until the next coach is announced. Then recruiting is all that matters until next fall.

Agreed.

i just don’t care about that. There was so much national hype around ND getting Charlie weis, Michigan getting Harbaugh etc and one was a flop and the other has just been solid.

I believe the large majority understand the instant impact. There is just a large number of those that believe it won't happen and those, like me, that are cautious.

I promise you, if Gruden is announced, I will likely be arrested and charged with something that involves streaking and firearms.

I with you! I won't be 100% convinced until I see him at the podium either. But I'm not afraid to believe the smoke that's clearly out there if you pay attention. I'd rather spend my time on VN and VQ seeking out the Gruden info and digesting that rather than discussing X's and O's from Mullen's offensive playbook. It's not nearly as exciting. I like to be entertained and if anything the Grumors are entertaining.

Discussing Mullen, Bobo, Brohm or the next pay raises of Patterson and mullet man make me want to drink bleach. No thanks.

Sure there's excitement IF he is hired. I can't make that "if" big enough.

If he doesn't accept this job, he's putting whatever coach we do hire in a hole. Like previously mentioned, if we put half the effort into other coaches that we have with Gruden, we'd already have a damn good one locked up.
Wish you had been bama's AD about 10 years ago

Disagree.

Can't see Saban ever losing to Iowa or Virginia Tech or getting shut out by Clemson.

Outside of 2010, Saban pretty much only loses to teams with Heisman QBs or in games where the other QB has a Heisman performance AND his team turns the ball over like crazy.

Duh... I know. I didn't say anything about Gruden being hired. It was obvious in his remarks that he was talking about Butch. Trust me, I've learned not to bring pro Gruden stuff over here.

Definitely don’t share with them what you told me the other day.

Substance is what is actually important. Many UT fans are so depressed that all they crave is hype. If they get that they will be satisfied until they are calling for a "hype reset" in a few years if the hype doesn't turn into substance. Gruden would 100% bring hype. He MIGHT also bring substance. I would have no problem if UT pulls off that hire. But I also realize there is certainly gamble involved in that hire.

Then that's what we should expect as our peak. You don't expect your average as your peak. Makes no sense.

Gotcha. So two division titles in next 5 years is the benchmark? I agree, just want to make sure we're settled.

Mullen would do it. So would Taggart. There are a few others who would do it as well.

He's better - I won't argue that, but it's not a huge margin.

Heard from a little birdie that Kyle Whittingham could be one of Currie's secret candidates. He scouted him hard in 2009. Whittingham ultimately turned us down but Currie may try again.

Well he doesn't have much of a bottom. Only losing 31 games in 16 seasons as a head coach is unheard of. Call him what you will, but he's not a really good coach, he's a great coach. Will go down as one of the best college football coaches of all time.

They are close, and the OSU win in 2015 over Bama was huge for Meyer. But at the same time, Saban essentially made Meyer flee Gainesville and the SEC. He knew he couldn't beat him consistently.
