Official Jon Gruden Thread 30

some quotes for those who say he said he'd never coach college (which he never said, by the way)"

Gruden said he had no doubt he would coach again whether "it's the NFL, college, high school or, maybe, I'll just be the best damn flag football coach in the history of Florida. I'm now head of the FFCA -- Fired Florida Coaches Association."

Gruden said despite the perception he could not work with young NFL quarterbacks, he has not ruled out any potential opportunities at the collegiate level.

"I really only had one young guy to work with in Chris Simms," said Gruden. "I'd love a shot to coach some young college guys. Look, you know me. I'm an addict. I love to coach."

Preacher, we never know the WHOLE story inside a person's head at any point in their lives. There are motivations to play down (or play up) possible future jobs, careers, directions they could take their lives.

And you're right, Jon never said he wouldn't. He never locked the door.

But in an interview just a few months ago with PewterReport.com, he was quoted as saying,

PewterReport.com said:
"I was very determined to be a college coach. Then I realized that if I became a college coach I would probably have you on probation within four or five weeks.

“Too many rules, man. I mean I like to work. I don’t like to be working 15 hours a week with players. The recruiting, Facebook, texting, e-mails – all that stuff. Yeah, I’d probably have you in real deep, deep trouble if I was your college coach.”

That's sort of the coaching interview equivalent of the job interview response, "My biggest shortcoming? It's that I just care too much and don't know when to quit" answer. So you have to take it with a big grain of salt.

But that's what people are referring to when they say Jon said he didn't want to coach at the college level.

Doesn't apply to the Vols, of course, because we're awesome and he'll find a way to stay inside the rules for us.

Go Vols!

I will say this, Haslam has bought out CBJ buyout. But that's been done. What happened last night is totally different, and I'm not going to leak it till it's possibly leaked This Sunday.

Fair enough. If it's not leaked Sunday are you willing to leak it then?

only with a Vols loss on Saturday right?

Please don’t take my answer the wrong way. I am just matter of fact sometimes. I don’t know if Dale was approached or not in regard to this subject today. I just know his stance on the come to Knoxville topic as a coach. I think it is very safe to say that Gruden is very seriously considering what is in front of him. I don’t listen to or take the Knoxville media seriously. Especially those tied to the AD

The others like Swain don’t get that much intel from the AD. Former players do not get information unless they are someone like Phil, Peyton or have become donors that give enough to be privy to conversations.

I agree with Gruden becoming very serious about the job.

However........ if you are one of the coaches he contacts to become part of his staff, and the word gets out about it, and then he declines the job, how would you still be able to continue employment at your current position as a coach based upon loyalty? I guess I would need 100% assurance or something from him...Just saying...

I think the smoke is about to become fire....but is the wood soaked with water or gasoline??

We shall SOON know....

I would like to point to a post you made in Gruden 24...

What is so secret? If you supposedly can't tell, then why put anything at all out. Just keep your mouth shut until it happens!

Please let this happen for Tennessee no other fan base has been through more crap and deserves this than us. Why was it said that it's a fluid situation though? Sounds like nothing has been signed yet.

I converted two non-believers at work today back to Grudenites. And these were folks burned from the 2012 "incident". My level of excitement right now is rivaling my college days in the student section during the 1998 season. Every game that passed was just another confirmation "this is really happening," even though there were dark moments when I thought it might all go away (Arkansas, Syracuse). The ducks, stars, and everything are really lining up again. Perfect for a 20 year anniversary!

Ok, OLEVOLFAN, you made me feel better. Didn't think that was possible today, and for that, I thank you.

More than anything in this crazy situation, I just want Butch out of town.
