Clarification on the JAV post from the Gruden thread:

For Context purposes that JAV list came about because someone asked him

"JAV- I'm sure you've only been asked this a time or 2... million, but who are you rpersonal top 5?

JAV says: Those who i believe would be interested in us and we them No order: then that list

I wouldn't expect any big fish to be interested enough to take the job without UT being serious, including Gruden.

From everything Ive heard, UT has made a pitch to him that says "we re serious" this time. That wasn't there in the past and things change over 5 years.
As you said, it comes down now to whether he wants college football and at UT.

When you are FOS you tend to not remember what lies you spewed before. Easiest way to find them

Perhaps, but it's waaay too important of a hire to take a risk on Durkin.

Screams "budget hire."

Makes total sense if you look at big picture. Durkin defense dominated in this conference and recruited at elite level. His stock would be sky high right now if his top 2 QBs don't get hurt. His Michigan defense was elite as well

Good points. I also had forgotten that he’s lost his two top QBs. I think very highly of Norvell though. His wins over Houston last year and UCLA this year impressed me. Good recruiter and has a great offense. Get him a good DC and I think he could win a lot of games here.

To me this process is clear and concise:

Did Gruden turn you down? If yes,

Did Patterson turn you down? If yes,

Did Mullen turn you down? If yes,

Did Taggart turn you down? Make it work.
