The decision about the new University of
Tennessee football coach is in the hands
of the man most Volunteers fans seem
to want.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press has
learned from sources close to the process that Super
Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden has been extended
an offer to succeed Derek Dooley.
Sources confirmed that while details are still
being negotiated, the university’s offer is very
lucrative and there is no firm deadline on a decision.
Gruden’s decision likely will hinge on the
money the school is willing to pay for his potential
staff, the sources say.
“Right now, the money is there for him
[Gruden], but they aren’t as close as he would
like for his assistants,” one source said. “It could
happen as soon as this weekend or go into next
week, but he’s pretty firm where he is and has
already spoken with the guys he wants to be on
the staff with him.”
According to a different source, “He’s told
them they aren’t close enough on money for the
staff. He’s very interested, but if they don’t come
up with what they need for the assistants, he’s
told them he’s out.”
Rumors began to surface late Wednesday afternoon
that talks had broken down and that Gruden
was no longer a candidate for the job. However,
according to Times Free Press sources, that is not
the case. As of Thursday evening, Gruden had
weighed an offer but countered that more money
would be needed for the staff he is assembling.
In the meantime, university officials are continuing
to consider other candidates. However, the
job is Gruden’s if he decides to say yes.
UT officially began its search for a new coach
after Dooley was fired Nov. 18 after three unsuccessful
seasons.
The Vols finished with a losing record in all
three of Dooley’s seasons and a 15-21 overall record
during his tenure, including 4-19 in Southeastern
Conference games.

Butch is a low life sleaze if he is saying those things to the players- he sounds like a desperate idiot trying to burn down everything in his path along with his career. Butch should be removed from the university immediately if this is true. So help us he better not succeed. Hopefully Gruden is indeed going to take this job or we are screwed in every way.

I agree with Hawk about a small world within the Blackhawk Community. Heck, I retired from the artillery in 2001 and a couple of my old soldiers are now CSM's and branch manager's in the "Field of Fire's" network.

The Big Green Machine is honestly a very small world, no doubt.

Now I’m from chattanooga, born and raised and becoming more active in the community as I’ve gotten older. There truly is a movement here in chattanooga of boosters that were once low level who are now moving to mid tier. I had no idea how much money was around here and many of them congregate at the Honors and local political gatherings and are involved in a multiple businesses as investors or board members.

1. Heard from another family friend today that Hullco who is close to fulmer is pushing for Gruden.
2. Barry large who sold a logistics company is valued anywhere from 50-100 million and he and his family bleed orange. I’ve now heard he’s pushing Gruden and is working with other boosters to make sure this deal doesn’t fall through.
3. My super close family friend who works with the Luptons said they are still pushing for Gruden and thinks it’s happening. Actually he doesn’t seem in the least bit worried which makes me even more confident.

All 3 of these people know one other and that’s no coincidence. Two of these men know Peyton and have even golfed with him at the honors a time or two.

I’m not an insider but I’ve been investigating and reaching out to friends and getting anyone to talk that’s willing and if not I keep trying. Luckily several of these convos over the last few weeks have been run ins so it’s more difficult to lie or ignore someone when it’s in person compared to the phone or texting.

With all that I’ve pieced together on top of what message board insiders are saying across the board I think all the information which has been a few weeks behind is now starting to come to light. (I believe one poster confirmed this before) I did ask one of my contacts about Gruden and if there was any truth about wanting to be respectful about a coach who is currently not fired. He responded that’s why there has been a lot of smoke bc Gruden does NOT want to be viewed or portrayed as a guy who’s trying to remove a sitting coach.

One told me the smart money placed bets weeks ago. That seems to be true as well. I wish I had listened a month ago. Anyways hope we can have a VN get together and celebrate once this is over!

I always thought Butch was good for the kids and program in general, but just so happened he couldn’t actually coach football. My perspective changed earlier this season. I was catching up with a friend from high school. He is extended family with a player that left UT. The stories he was telling me turned my stomach. I can’t wait for Butch to be gone.

First of all, Grude afternoon everybody. I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact Currie will let Butch finish the season and I get it. However, if the above is true and Butch is trying to get out in front of Currie and control the narrative, I would like to think Currie would announce his firing at season's end after his next loss which could quite likely be Mizzou this Saturday.
