Butch will be coaching with his butt clinched hoping McBride doesn't get hurt. Will be the most conservative game plan ever.

Maybe not. He might want to he be able to claim he had to play a 4th QB when discussing what went wrong regarding his future employment.

This is prime time for Mullen-- a golden opportunity for Sexton to set him up for a big raise and extension at MSU. He seems like a guy who's happy where he is and is poised to become very rich managing moderate expectations in a small town that suits his family.

He's already very rich, and as long as he doesn't care about winning any championships, he can stay very rich for the rest of his life by staying in Starkville.

We all know that but another school might buy it. I mean many of us here are giving WT a pass because he is now playing a 3rd stringer.

Can sell that to a fan base pretty easily. Especially at the places his name is gonna get tossed around at.

Shown his ceiling at Miss St not his ceiling as a coach. You would be saying same thing about Franklin if he stayed at Vandy this whole time. There is a big difference between coaching at Ms St and Vandy than tN and penn st. Nobody knew Butch could recruit like he did befute he got here.

Yeah, the point is valid and I retract that part of statement

I still stand behind my opinion that he is not a NC coach, and invite him to prove me wrong

Yep.

"My first team guy played great and led us back against ga Tech and then got hurt and we struggled. My second team guy was making great strides but then he gets hurt. Now I am down to my last guy. It just all snow balled on us"

Not saying I buy it but I think he can use that narrative for a new start,

Taggart coaches to the team he has and doesn’t try and fit the square peg in the round hole like Butch. He may not be able to develop the QB like Mullen, but he is a good coach and 10x the recruiter.

Taggart above Mullen for me

Either one is a plus

I'm sure some G5 fanbase will be happy.

Doubt very many thought McBride would ever see the field at UT, and now he's starting. A microcosm of the state of UT football.

Here’s my hold up on Taggart and I hope someone with more insight on him can explain to me:

I understand that Taggart is a great recruiter and that is needed to compete in the SEC, but I don’t want another salesman I want a real football coach that can win. I can see he has built programs but at those programs even just getting better players helps that win total go up each year. So someone please sell me on his in game coaching/development. Is he more than just a recruiter? Honest question.

He's walked into a bad situation every where he's been.

WKU was AWFUL and look what they've done in recent years; Taggart initiated that.

USF had been on a rapid decline and he took them from 2 wins to 10.

He started off 4-1 with Oregon until Herbert went down. Plus his recruiting class is looking great

He's 41, he can recruit his ass off and he's turned around every program he's come into.

To me, the question is, can he actually coach at a championship level? Butch did some recruiting and turning around here, and he won bigger than Taggart in his previous stops. The fear with a guy like Taggart, to me, is that he’s shown he can take a bad mid-major team and make them good (or at least decent) for a mid-major program. That’s not the job description at Tennessee.
