Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

All of that sounds plausible, and lines up with other stuff I've heard. The only problem now us the optics have gotten so bad...the only thing that fixes it is the right hire. That happens, nobody remembers any if this after the press conference.

Can you imagine the heat Currie would feel if he trots out a Butch Jones type hire as if he just solved a Rubik’s cube? If the major players are in fact all in on Gruden, and he “butches” this up??

Is anyone else just sick to death of this? I'm tired of the infighting with fans. I'm tired of waiting for Butch to be out of Knoxville. I'm tired of hearing of nothing but dysfunction regarding the team, administrators and boosters.

Malaise has set in today.

I know. GTFO.

Has it been discussed that apparently yesterday Clay Travis, on his Outkick FB Live, said Gruden is a VERY GOOD possibility as the Vols coach?

Clay doesn’t like to be wrong.

If Gruden agreed to a deal, then an administrative war ensued over him, I don't see him as the type of guy to mess with all the B.S. then jump on board in the middle of it. I would imagine him to say "Thanks but no thanks" and walk away.

I agree. The terms have either been laid out and agreed to, or a power struggle has ensued and Gruden walks.

Money talks and bull**** walks? If this carries on for much longer, I'm leaning towards the latter.

If there is solid confirmation a house is purchased, we could all stop refreshing this thread.

Freak will ban anyone with this information to keep us all hitting F5 though ;)

I think he was referring to him being a very good possibility according to gambling sites.

I’m stoked he bought a house here, but wasn’t it confirmed they’ve been looking for a house here for a while?

That's cool and all buuut why isn't butch gone like yesterday and everyone here has made it clear he no one will talk or accept a job that isn't open so my question is "why is he not fired already "

I can only guess/hope when I answer that.

A couple scenarios.

- We offered Gruden and he accepted. In this scenario what is the benefit of firing CBJ? Especially if there is truth of the infighting between assistants. If you fire CBJ ALL of the attention is focused on the hire at that point. Maybe there were discussions with Gruden and he said that would make it difficult on him with ESPN and such.

- We offered Gruden and he rejected. Again all attention is focused on search.

-Currie has no clue what he's doing and we are screwed

Those are the main ones I can see. However I see no advantage in a bunch of attention on a coaching search at this point. Especially with the way the last few have went down. Furthermore the UF situation I think plays into this a little. If Butch is fired it easily exposes our hand and we are in a confirmed coaching hire war with UF. Then info leaks on who we are talking to. I kind of like the idea of UF in the dark as to what we are doing.

Just my opinion and just so you know I am a nobody.

Gotcha...Clay is not shy about ripping UT athletics. There was no additional, “they will mess this up” commentary. I think Clay believes it’s going to happen.

If there really is a power struggle occurring behind this whole fiasco, it only makes sense that we’re seeing this power struggle play out before our very eyes in the form of a targeted information war. It is evident in this very thread (and others like it on other forums) and in the media. It seems fairly clear to me that folks like MIT and Bubba have been sent out by one side to fan the flames that JG can be had. It has been implied that hired professionals might even be in use for this purpose.

Perhaps the opponent didn’t expect such a direct and effective information onslaught, but once known, a response would be required. As we know, certain media members and other “insiders” are now consistently saying that the chances of landing JG are nearly zero – a calculated response from the opponent intended to extinguish the flames of information being fanned by the JG camp. It’s fully logical to expect a response, and most likely at least one reason why MIT predicted a rise in articles saying that JG would not be a good college coach.

I would think it’s useful for the targets of this information war – the average UT football fan – to be aware of what is happening. At a minimum, it should make everyone aware of the overwhelming importance of the average football fan in the outcome of this very painful process. After all, the only power that anyone is able to wield is the power given to them by others.
