What if.....
Gruden has a timeline in which he needs to tie up loose ends with MNF, and obligations to Hooters etc..
Butch is advised he is let go after GA and start looking...
UTAD plan to let Butch go by Nov. 1st as many have heard. ( including myself )...
After Nov. 1st plan was to let interm coach take over regardless of Butch's situation..
Butch has some dirt some where allowing him to remain this season or until he finds another job...
PURE SPECULATION BUT IS IT POSSIBLE?
Based simply on the posted by Duckriver.... if his synopsis is accurate then I would say we are dealing with a power struggle between the Haslams in Knoxville (and their supporter) and the Elgins (sp) and their supporters .................
There is not much we can do if that is the case, but express out desire for Gruden and see who has the most power in the end...... This much I know... WIN OR LOSE..... this battle will not be fought without blood shed (not literal but figurative of course)
From VQ and I couldn't agree more
"For those in the camp of "athletics is a distraction"....
I ran into a family friend of mine last night. Both of his daughters went to one of the most distinguished boarding schools in the country in the Massachussetts, New Hampshire area. Think like more than $50k per year, with high hurdle rates for proficiencies, low acceptance rates, Ivy League graduate/acceptance in double digits, gigantic endowment, etc. You know where both of his daughters went to college? Take a wild guess.... Alabama. (I thought it was insane, but they did) Why? They could've easily had their choice of any liberal arts school, one of the Ivys or Stanford/Northwestern....but their dad took the oldest daughter to a game 6 years ago and they had the time of their lives. They loved the atmosphere, the pageantry, the sororities, conservative environment, proximity to Florida where they stay a bunch etc etc etc.
Note to Beverly - you dont know jack sh.. about marketing...or about the national reach a great athletics program has. Go back up to your offce and polish your midmajor resume...send a few terse emails about how things should be...have a Coke and a smile and GTF OUT OF THE WAY!!"
I agree with everything you said. I don't understand having him twist in the wind at this point. I believe there is a reason, but for the life of me I can't get anyone to tell me why.
I cant figure it either. To me it is clear he has given up and doesnt want to be here. He has to be a pawn in the big game for some reason. Since the encounter between him and John I cant even get a courtesy call back from my friends in the AD and one is a fraternity brother. My last conversation ended with we cant exchange text because people are posting the screenshots. Just curious if your text have dried up as well.

You had me until the dirt part...
I think butch is the interim because nobody wanted to be the interim. The concussion story is adding pressure to this because really, keeping butch is making the university look worse now. It upsets the plan waiting on Grudens deals to close.
A bookmark is better than bending the page...until tour bookmark gets wrinkled.
Based on what others have said, Bev doesn't appear to be the holdup.
I only have a minute but I wanted to say:
-I believe Currie has to make his choice before he presents at 3 PM.
-in biblical times the king's right hand man would be a eunuch, someone who had been castrated to prevent them from becoming power hungry. For Currie to accept this deal, he is willfully making himself a eunuch to the whole lot of them. That isn't what he has spent his career building in his own mind.
