I've become vested in this thread. I'm not even entertaining the idea of anyone else but Gruden. Please hit me with some good news today, Or at least something promising.

Unfortunately many of our questions will not be answered until everything is over...

And some of them we will never know.

This is true. Neither side will want to blame the other if Gruden doesn't happen. It will be one of those "We never seriously considered Coach Gruden".

There are several things that should be stickied for those reading the Gruden threads: Anyone know how to do this?

  • How to post a GIF
  • Which Haslam is which
  • Why Gruden would be a good coach for UT
  • How to properly quote someone.
  • Who are the insiders

What else?

No politics

Here's the thing about the concussion protocols put into place by the NCAA.

I'm asking (because I don't know) if any neutral official like the medical observers have ever removed a player from a game to check for concussion without the team's consent?

It's all well and good to have such observers on site for the games and having the ability to make independent observations. But has that ability ever been exercised?

I have no idea how often it happens but it is completely up to the observer and team medical staff. I am not naïve, obviously crap takes place.

I haven't seen this mentioned, but does anyone recall a few years back when Jordan Matthews (Vandy) took a hard blow and vomitted on the field of play a few plays later. I don't recall how Franklin snuck out the back door on that one, other than the onset of symptoms and reactions was almost immediate.

The legal standard for negligence does not automatically allow Butch to hide behind a lack of actual knowledge. As the head coach, should he have known that something was wrong? And was the team policy designed to shift responsibility onto players to essentially self-diagnose and self-report? While the coaches emphasize an "unspoken" rule of NOT self-reporting?

I think Butch has put the University into a very very dangerous position if the answers are in the affirmative.

This is where I am. I don't think it matters if butch was directly told Kendrick had a concussion. If he did, and played him anyways, then that is abhorrent. The question is more or less what was the policy for suspected concussions. Was it an honest oversight or were certain signs overlooked due to a weak process of assessing for injuries.

Somebody please correct me if my memory is lacking. But I recall that in order to get Saban hired at Alabama, they had to get Bryant, Jr. out of the way. Similar situation at UT with Haslam.

That is how I remember.... but keep in mind I have oldtimers

If this is true then this is a no brainer theoretically. I assume it was posted/stated by someone we would likely trust?

Also, at some point early in the first or second Gruden thread someone mentioned Gruden and Currie were "friends", so if true, then once again theoretically, should be a no brainer. Anyone confirm?

Even a "no brainer" takes time and can be complicated.

Oh, I have this feeling knowledge will leak that someone screwed it up. It'll be whispers and innuendo, but if the AA, AD or Haslam messes is up, I'd dare say someone will talk out of class.

I think Big Jim is the thing holding everything up. Not sure about the Gruden side but I'm very confident that Big Jim is keeping Butch over there for the time being.

Still completely baffles me how one man has so much power amongst a large group of power-hungry people.

I didn't think they needed team consent?
