Several of you posters had some great answers. I will have to buy a fine bottle of scotch and do a tasting with 4-5 of you at one of the home games next year. I will post the exact answer that I had for the game theory payoff once Butch has been formally fired. I do not want to give the competitors insight into how they should be thinking about it. If you answered then DM me on Twitter and we can pick a game as a group.

Beav can you give me a run down on how to DM on Twitter. I'm a east Tn boy. Not a tweeter.

Nostalgic for Joe Johnson, Holt and Dickey right about now. Leaders with the spine and wherewithal to recognize incompetence, and the fortitude to react in the best interests of UT.
any of y’all ever have the pleasure of hearing Joe Johnson speak? Like at the old Big Orange picnic @ the National Guard armory in Nashville?? That cat was hillarious!!

The Comb is one of my favorite posters on VN. Insiders are around, it has been a very interesting past 2 days. The Kendrick’s issue is a big deal (both in the health of that kid and on the implications it has on Butch).

For the game theory nerds, whoever can correctly summarize the implications this has on Currie and the boosters will win a a couple free scotch drinks on me at a home game next year.

I would imagine, given your previous info that the AD did not want to take a big time hire, but the boosters had to drag them into it, that this chops Currie off at the knees. He doesn’t have much of a platform to resist the boosters now. Butch is like a bad ass teenager that keeps making his preacher dad look bad in front of the whole town.

The boosters now have all the bargaining chips. They already had most by threatening to pull their funds, but now they have finger wagging material and can browbeat the AD.

And as far as Gruden to the buccaneers goes, I don’t see it. For one, they fired him. He’s cut some sly jokes about them firing him during his QB camp show. But also, Im of the opinion that the political issues in the NFL is turning him off big time. Whatever dumb crap he has to deal with in college, it won’t involve the CNN/MSNBC/FOX news drama that the NFL is going through. Add in emptying stadiums and sponsors kicking dirt to get away from the NFL at the moment....doesn’t look like the best bet for a head coach. Eventually that revenue drop will catch up with rosters and coaching salaries....meanwhile, CFB is booming. Packed stadiums. Great game time environments. Not as much political crap. Etc.

Not a game theory nerd, but I do think this has put Currie in a mighty bind.

Butch's contract has a mitigation clause, and Currie would obviously support Butch's quest for another job. It's a win/win and avoids the unpleasantness of trying to find cause for termination. By stinking this up, Butch has greatly reduced his value in the market...at no loss to himself, but at great loss to UT. If Currie takes the high road, UT suffers. If Currie pushes this event as a basis for termination, UT regains the money, but at significant cost in drama.

There really is no win for Currie. Waste millions to maintain a relatively peaceful and drama free transition, or push for termination for cause to save up to the full buyout, but invite pain, drama, and litigation. All because (fired) Butch didn't take care of his player. Insult on injury. Crap sandwich, indeed.

It seems to me he has another choice: 1) put CWW on Admin Suspension until investigation is complete. 2) privately let the Kendricks know that UT and CBJ have agreed to part ways; then announce it publically within a few hours of that conversation- pay the negotiated buy-out and end it tomorrow. CBJ can say that, as much as he loves Tennessee and his players, it’s best for them if he steps aside. I think if the conversation with the family and the announcement are handled properly, all can move forward.

Edit: of course, I don’t know the family and can’t guess what their needs are at this point

This pic...mediocrity in motion.

That brings back a very sad time in my life.

Dickey retired in '02, IIRC
yeah just checked , ‘03 actually..... feels like 1903 though . I remember as a kid and later every time they introduced him @ any event there was still a fair amount of boo birds who had never forgiven him for leaving to go back to Fla.

Remember the wife. What she wants, usually she gets.

@Cyndiwithay2: The guy that broke the BK story is saying now there are reports that Marcus Tatum(BK's backup) quit the team. #TheHitsKeepComing

---------

Who broke the BK story? I can't remember. Trey? Illated? Who?

Regardless, if this is true, the team and the program is gushing blood. What's the hold up?

Are you having a conversation with yourself?

I think you have to follow back before you can DM on twitter. I’m the account with the picture of the sunset w/ pool.

This is true. As a married man I can vouch for this myself lol.

Women are like glaciers. They may not get there quickly, or by the shortest path, but you can’t resist them for long and given a long enough timeframe...they will just grind you down into what they want you to be. Lovingly, of course 😁

I was about to post something similar...couldn't agree more! Hopefully it all works out in the long run however the short run isn't looking so good.

Just like everybody else I want to believe the master behind the scenes plan is moving along nicely. But the events since Sunday have made me change my tune a little. Especially today. The reputation of everyone involved INCLUDING the people perceived to be pulling strings on the booster side looks like a clown right now. The “almost firing” Sunday, the awkward press conferences, the articles saying “what are they waiting on” and the concussion scandal are awful. And nothing... just mere forced statements by Currie. No actual insight.

That’s not playing it close to the vest, that’s not doing your job. That’s dragging the brand through the mud. That’s diminishing value.

Obviously, all is forgiven if he pulls a rabbit out of the hat. But the evidence thus far says otherwise and continues to build. It’s easy to sling mud at the admin and Haslam... but this is on the other powerplayers as well. Get your crap together and turn this thing around.

I just lol'd and woke my wife up. :)

Well don't show her the pic! Hard to sleep with that vision in your head. If we somehow land the Gruden though, we should line I'll Kill Ya Hwy all the way to UT.
