His coaches have a responsibility to notify said independent medical staff of a situation, no?

If they notice it, sure. Concussions aren't this black and white obvious thing you're making them out to be. There's a reason they have actual doctors and not interns to make the evaluations and perform a while battery of tests.

Y’all are failing to see that it doesn’t have to be Butch. ANY coach could have noticed the signs and missed it/ignored it. In the end, that might fall on Butch.

There are countless medial officials both associated with Tenn and the SEC that are there to monitor players for abnormal behavior. If they didn't evaluate 63 then the coaches are clear.

If the vomiting had happened sooner then yes he would have been flagged as a risk but without they happening Butch nor any other coach is at fault

You are assuming that he was evaluated, I don't believe he was. If he had been evaluated, he wouldn't have been cleared IMO. If you look at my OP, I said he was culpable to some extent, maybe it's very minor, but he has some culpability here.

In addition, I don't think this is an attempt to fire him with cause. I think the buyout has been determined and he'll get what he agreed to. I think this incident may be enough to go ahead and remove him from this toxic situation.

Bingo. While we all know Butch will be fired, he hasn't been (yet) because the program hasn't been damaged by him still being employed. Something like this changes that

Also doesn’t butch have a history of playing guys after possible concussions??? Didn’t Hurd have one in the Georgia game last year???

I'm not sure if it means anything- I don't know what any of this means. But second straight year where this issue is publicly discussed doesn't look good.

Come on man, you're reaching. Why do you assume they noticed something or are even capable of noticing anything?

I'm reaching? OK.

I think it's highly unlikely that someone at least his position coach didn't notice something amiss if he was staggering around and throwing up on the sidelines. But hey I guess that's me.

Everyone is constantly talking about how he has the “it” factor and how intense he is. Never hear about Actual xs & os. Just about him playing scout team and being jacked.

I get what you're saying Hank. The guy looks cool and people like that. I think if he looked like Mike Leach I'd still want him. I mean the guy is absolutely destroying pretty much everyone he faces. And once upon a time I wanted Mike Leach here. Now, if he looked like Jim Chaney as Bruin suggested I think you'd have some more people jumping off the wagon.

I've watched a couple of their games this year. He seems like he is in complete control on the sidelines. That is definitely different than what we've had the last 5 years. He's coached on both sides of the ball. He's turned around a team from 0-12, 6-7 and now undefeated. Like I said above he is routing teams weekly and I am pretty sure he is covering the spread every single week which translates to overachieving in fans eyes.

And to top all of it off the guy looks cool and has a smokin hot wife. (suiting up for practice does nothing for me as we have a WR coach who wears cleats and can't get anything out of his players)

You telling me Butch didn't angrily question Wells, probably multiple times, on why Kentucky had put up a tent and started a fire on top of JG?

And you want me to believe Wells didn't look in the face of BK and have a clue that his bell had been rung?

I find that hard to believe.

This. It's naive to think at least someone on the staff didn't notice something was wrong.

Exactly. And this mod mentality, not necessarily in here but your general vol fan looking for any excuse to fire, is bred by the ADs seeming unwillingness to do anything about the situation. I think it would be best for all involved to just part ways with butch now.

In your attempt to be as passive aggressive as you can be, you made some really large leaps in logic. He threw up in the final seconds of the game, not throughout it. He wasn't staggering around, he was playing football at the same (admittedly poor) level as before the concussion.

You're acting like any layman can easily identify any concussion. We all watched him play and none of us noticed an obvious change. Some concussions are subtle, that's why even trained medical specialists need a whole host of tests to identify a concussion.
