Its easy to troll when you have those that want to believe it.

Honestly, why should we not want to believe it? Why should we not hope for a saviour for our football program? Nobody is a slam dunk hire outside of Saban or Meyer. Neither of those guys will ever be here, obviously. But, if we want a unified fanbase, then someone like Gruden would be the one to do it. Do I believe he is coming? I don't. But, I would love it if he did. I don't blame anyone for getting trolled here. They want Gruden to come because they believe he is the best possible hire we can make. I think we all want to hire the best possible, though we have different thoughts on who that is.

They don’t need to win the beat writers over. They have one media source doing it now...a former VFL, Swain. The fanbase knows him...a lot of the fans outside this board could care less what Hubbs says most likely. Many may not even know him, but when these fans see tweets from Swain and Haynesworth, they start thinking this is real and the buzz grows wings. It may not work, but that pressure and the bigger thing of a huge amount of boosters threatening to pull their donations is what is driving this thing to get done. The boosters know the university needs their money to undertake all of these projects, especially the Neyland renovations. It takes more money than what the power players, like the Haslams can donate, to get these projects done. All of the boosters donating 6 and 7 figures are needed. Atlanta Vol said there are 59 or so boosters who donate 7+ figures...only a very few of those are Haslams and maybe a couple others who may disagree with a big hire like Gruden. Take even 40 of those away, and that’s over $40 million not accessible for projects. The less influential boosters have had enough and banded together to form a major power play. It’s why MIT knows everything that’s going to happen, because he’s been informed of the plan to broadcast pieces here to put pressure. He is 100% confident, because he knows the university needs this booster money to do the things they have planned to do.

There is way too much specific info out there to not believe this is actually real. The question is is the plan bulletproof this time, or does the powers that be try to call the bluff of all of those involved in this power play? We will see when the new HC is announced.

You also forgot the HK improvements theories that are also making deals possible. Even if Gruden doesn’t come I learned so much about economics in that thread last night. Who would have thought that?

In regards to the entertainment value the Grumors provide. My favorite to date is Doyle’s Grudometer.

Always makes me laugh.

A guy who’s best win is Memphis over one with a Super Bowl? To each his own

Where they’ve been is one part of the story. Where they are going is the more important part, for our end.

I’m not sure Gruden coaches again. I think Frost will be elite.

The unknown is where we live, and some people simply will never accept what they haven’t seen yet (Frost potential to be elite)

I’m a fan of Frost, he has the potential to be elite. I think Gruden’s chance to be elite is much more of a sure thing.

If you had your choice to be UT's next HC you would pick Mullen and Frost over Jon Gruden? Wow. That seems unwise.

Certainly could be. I'd be elated if we hired any of those three. Not sure Gruden would be the automatic slam dunk that many think he is. If we did hire him, and he fell on his face, that would put us in a heck of a rough spot financially. I would be very excited about a Gruden hire though, don't get me wrong. Really don't think it's gonna happen.

I don't have a clue. I don't know him personally and neither does anyone else on here. Just pointing out that the premise had a logical flaw.

I think volatil knows him personally through Ashlee. He vouches that he is absolutely legit.

This is what makes me wonder why everyone just defers to Haslam. We have other boosters at his level, at some point I imagine they won't be content with his apparent absolute veto power.

And I think this is exactly where we are right now with this whole process...the majority of the big spenders are fed up with the biggest spender getting the last say so and ruling all of the final decisions. So, what did they do? Banded together to make a huge power play. Make this thing happen this go around, or you lose millions and millions of dollars every year for campus projects.

You said they were talking about the BOT meeting. I'm simply pointing out they're not. I don't know whether he's coming here or not but there is evidence to say they're going after him with a vengeance. I'm not talking about the people you claim are trolls. I'm talking about LWSVOL, Hubbs, SBV, AtlantaVOL, among others that are confirmed not trolls. I'll remain skeptical until he walks to the podium but there's a real chance, a decent chance that he coaches the Vols next year.

Same info I am getting is they are going after him from two different contacts but not done. Beaver is a tool being used to apply pressure and get word out and he has an agenda. Hope it works.

Not that the term means much, but I see a "troll" job as someone planting info that they know is false to get the masses "ruled up".

Having incorrect info or info that changes from the time you heard to the finish doesn't make you a troll IMO.

If it does LWS is a self professed troll, because he will tell you that not everything he has posted comes to fruition. His intent was not to reveal false info knowing it was false, it was either wrong from the get go, or changed at some point.

Excellent Post...Thanks

My thoughts:

UT has done everything they can and should do to try and get Gruden. I think in the end he doesn't want to coach or coach here at UT. But it won't be for lack of effort or money on UT's part.

Coach Jones will coach longer than anyone wants him to this year - he already has - I keep saying this and no one really listens (that's okay).

Butch is absolutely done - he will not coach in 2018 for UT. But the timing of when this will be announced is not known.

I think our best program changing hire with the most potential upside is Scott Frost.

I hope this is who we end up with as he will redefine and reshape our culture into winning football - snatching the souls of our opponents and crushing their hopes and dreams.

Ironic considering you are making the same assumptions only on your side.

Absurd I say!

It's not the same at all. You are speaking and proving to be absurd WITH YOUR STATEMENTS as I detailed.

Regarding Gruden, you have no tangible proof that he "just likes the attention"

Get a better argument.

if you're referring to my main point as doing the same thing from the other side, I am not definitively saying one way or the other because, wait for it, I don't know him. I am saying y'all don't know him, therefore, deeming him am attention whore is ridiculous with your lack of knowledge of Gruden the person and what's inside his head.

It really is something that certain people believe Gruden is a "done deal" but Butch is still the coach.

Those two things do not jive. If we had Gruden in pocket Butch would've been fired the second Gruden said yes and he would've already been announced and on the recruiting trail.

I've been trying to understand this myself, and I think Currie gave the answer last night. I think he believes keeping Butch head coach is the best way to get this team to a bowl game for the players and especially the seniors. I don't think he trusts any of the other coaches to be an interim coach and lead the team to at least 6 wins. I think he's playing for a bowl game.

Lol. This argument/debate will get no where. People won’t be convinced until Gruden is standing at the podium and that’s fine. #theygonlearn

Remember, Butch and Gruden are friends. Maybe Gruden didn’t want his friend treated unfairly. I think the info about the assistant coaches being at odds and none of them wanting the interim is legit, too.
