Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

Yes, I posted a few pages back that this would be a HUGE statement that the University couldn't ignore for long. I think it would go a long way into pressuring them into Gruden. And sooner rather than later.

I agree with you 100 percent. People seem to ignore the fact that there is a chance that we hire a coach after Florida and that coach will not be a proven winner or a big name...then they might look back and say "we should have done something to let the decision makers know we wont accept it". By then it will be too late.

You know what the ironic thing is? People with your attitude caused us to be in this pit of mediocrity in the first place. From my experience you can either be an observer or you can be an influencer. You choose to accept the status quo, others are working very hard behind the scenes to change it.

Congratulations you have officially missed the entire point of my post.. I could not agree more with you that we should not accept this mediocrity in the AD.. The truth is though that this will not change until the admin cares about athletic excellence at least as much if not more than they do about being the "Harvard of the South"

I am at the front of the line wanting to believe you and others that are friends with a guy who knows a guy but to this point you have proven to be at best an average TROLL

We as VOLNATION should be more focused on sending a legit message via whatever connections we all have..

I can tell you this Beav I have 4 tickets to LSU that will be burned if CBJ is still at the helm and two other members of my immediate family have already made it clear that do not intend to renew sason tickets moving forward unless there is a serious commitment made by administration a la Gruden level hire

Yup, it's very possible. I really think that's why we've had the leaks to the press, the rumors, and even Beaver on here. To add more and more layers of pressure to the administration and university to hire a big name (Gruden) and give in to the deal that has already been negotiated for them behind the scenes. For the life of me though, I can't understand the angle of whoever is opposing this so strongly. Honestly, what do they stand to gain by keeping the football program mediocre? It's good for everyone if we are winning. Is it a control thing by one, or a few, people? Or something more that I haven't put together yet?

That was a major burn... but you obviously spend money to see UT play so you have the right to voice your opinion in any way that you think matters or might help the program in the long run... even if its only just a little help. I don't believe or not believe MIT. I'm leaning towards thinking he has sources and good information and legit wants what we all want. I think the people who have tickets/season tickets should perhaps try to focus their frustration and the fact that they will burn tickets and quit spending money on the Vols...let Currie and the athletic department know. It sounds ****ty to say we wont go to games or publicly support the Vols... but as a fan who spends money on the program, we have no other options to voice our opinions or concerns. We can't email Currie, we cant in any meaningfull way get his attention other than making him notice that Neyland is empty and dollars are missing.

Also I hate to rain on your parade friend but I dont want you to be confused any longer.. I have watched your narrative on here for a couple weeks and found it to be fairly amusing honestly and I would love to think that your behind the scenes secret coup is real but unfortunately you are full of it..

I have known a man for the majority of my life that is very close with my family that has on more than one occasion made contribution of not 7 figures but 8 figures to this athletic department and though I certainly do not badger him constantly about the next big scoop I have been in touch with him fairly regularly and your "info" for the MOST PART is nonsense.

This man I can assure you a thousand times over is privy to information that people like you and I on a message board have never and will likely never be.

True on the number of coaching searches and backdating an account. Maybe he's apart of a campaign or maybe he's just really connected within the boosters and administration. I have no interest in doxing him as I am quite sure he will read this. I don't, however, think he is just bringing information out of the goodness of his heart. Why would he wait so long?

Social/media pressure to get this across the finish line.

I agree, sir. I cant think of any reason at all that some high up decision maker would say "No. I won't allow a proven winning coach come to UT and help the program". I just dont get what possible reasons they could have other than their own ego. If thats the case...if whatever plans the boosters and currie or whoever try to make to ensure we get a good coach fail... They should come out and say why it didnt happen and who stopped it. Let the fans know who the blame really falls on and why.

A) I believe you

B) do you have any specific points you think are bunk? Or anything you've heard that's interesting or contrary to what this thread has been assuming?

Multiple donations of 8 figures to the AD? I'm not doubting you but that is a very short list. I know one who has done something similar but am by no means friends with him. In fact, I don't care for/like him at all. He's just from my hometown and I ran in the same circles as one of his sons in high school so I've met him a few times. What is your donor saying about the new hire?

Guys I don't think it's been brought up yet but Gruden makes $6.5M a year in a pretty stress free job. Why would he leave? Also, he's never been a college HC or had to recruit. And besides his NFL win percentage is only 54%.

Im sorry to be the one to bring all of this to your attention. I guess we can just end the thread now, huh?

:lolabove: You won the internet. Not that I agree with you, but it was so well presented.

Preach it Beaver! Some people settle and some people run from gunfire. NOW is the time for someone to step up and get this program out of the ashes and back to greatness. Someone needs to run towards the gunfire and save this program, it's history, it's reputation, and us fans that don't have the means to individually cause change. From the bottom of my heart regardless how this plays out..thank you for Giving Your All For Tennessee.

Fast, yes. But maybe not effective. That remains to be seen. We're probably a month or so ahead of them in the hiring process. Wait until the respective hires are announced before you judge too harshly. I truly believe people are working hard behind the scenes. I, for one, am going to wait and watch this play out.

If this gets across the finish line it will change the current trajectory of both the program and the University IMO

A lot of these leaks and people like Beaver popping up are, in my opinion, an attempt to place blame on the administration/university if the deal falls through. Thus more pressure for them to accept it. The more fans get behind the movement, the more pressure for them to accept it. The more it's leaked to the press as a deal that's realistic and on the table, the more pressure for them to accept it. And so on and so forth until they are forced to fold.

It has to come down to both control and a difference in philosophy between the University Admin. and the Athletic Dept., probably throughout the boosters too. We are just not committed. Whatever is going on is huge.

Lets say you're right. How would we know we are pressuring them? The world doesnt see this forum. The media doesnt, and if they do... they dont report it and convey the magnitude of it. If we want to apply pressure and do it in the open for all to see... we need to empty Neyland.

The right hire does that

It definitely does but my point is that uniting in something like the #emptyneyland movement first would put enough pressure on the university to make the right hire. We can be really loud if we are organized and together. Look how everyone reacted to Checker Neyland. And that was just people checking a website and wearing one of two colors. Virtually no effort but it was organized and it made an impression on not just the SEC, but all of college football.
