Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

So what did they do when Urban Meyer was hired out of ESPN?

That was a pretty different situation. Urban was a somewhat small time commentator. It's radically different than Gruden being the face of MNF.

In the Urban deal, he asked to be taken off future games. He was easily replaceable, by any number of hungry-for-work commentators in the system.

I should mention, that part of this analysis is for a hypothetical (if the contracts are future effective, Gruden continues on MNF post announcement of TN job, etc.). If a different deal had been reached, they could announce and discontinue work on ESPN and everything would be good.

Hyams just stated he has recently rechecked with his sources and they reiterated JG is not getting back into college coaching.

Shame

Dr. Jerry Punch said he talked to Grudens people a few days ago and he is not going to coach college football and nothing has changed since 2012. He said its a 365 day a year job and Jon is comfortable in life.

Interesting that these two posts came so close together

i think i'm with you tho.

PSA: My phone just died and I'm about to drive home. If you're on GA 204S out of Savannah avoid a white truck with a power T on the front and a UT rear licence plate holder....I will be on my phone.

Preacher I'll get back to you ASAP
I JUST FREAKING CAUGHT UP TOO

I don't know if I believe that

I wish they would go ahead and announce Gruden that way no matter who Florida hires it will seem like a 2nd or 3rd tier hire.

from what I understand, Currie is playing this out better then what we think.

this just my, imo

it may never be Gruden however I have faith in Currie. These asshats calling for him to be fired are complete morons.......they couldn't manage a mini mart and they think they can run an athletic department.

Hyams has been saying there is 0% chance Gruden would come to Tennessee .... If that is true, why would he feel the need to recheck his sources?

He also said forever that we didn't have an offer to Gruden in 2012..................until recently (If my memory serves)

Why would you be on on your phone if it died?

You've got it. The idea is where is Currie is he walks away. BATNA is essentially what happens if both parties walk away, what position are you in?

It gets far more complicated with multiple parties and numerous deal possibilities. For example, let's hypothetically say that Currie DOES have a deal with Mike Bobo. If he walked away from the Gruden deal, he'd still have the Bobo deal (his BATNA).

Now, if the coalition of boosters have said, "If you don't accept the Gruden deal we've brought you, we will discontinue donations in the amount of [$ HUGE], then Currie's BATNA would be (Bobo deal value - Booster money).

This is essentially the game theory approach MIT talked about. The deal that is being taken to the University is good enough that they shouldn't say no, in addition, the penalty for failing to accept the good offer is good enough that they shouldn't say no. Hence, I believe, is why he feels so confident.

you da man HfG ... you da man.
see, it's one thing to be able to understand something. it's another to be able to convey it to where others understand it.

it's what i do as a preacher.
i understand the Bible. the thing is to be able to convey it for others to latch on to it as well.

you sir, have the gift.

(not saying hawk and others don't)

and if that was the case, Gruden could come out and squash all the rumors himself, yet here we are.

Hey just heard from someone I know that's dating a player that a team meeting was called. Can anyone confirm this?

It is Monday of game week. I assume that is standard. Sundays are off days. Team meeting before practice etc on Monday. Correct me if I'm wrong somebody.

Yeah, this is relatively unprecedented. It wouldn't surprise me if a few high level NCAA attorney's have been drafting policy statements for this exact reason. Answering some version of the question, "When can a prospective NCAA coach announce his employment when he is currently working for a major sports media outlet?"

It's uncharted waters, and I'm fascinated.

In this era, information and opinion moves fast. Once it drops, it'll change overnight - no matter how long we wait. In six months, it won't matter whether he was announced tomorrow, or Nov. 30.

I do have a suspicion, based on a mostly overlooked ATL post, that there are boosters and UT staff working behind the scenes to try and judge how many recruits we lose by waiting. There's a game theory analysis and CBA that is done. If the risk is less than the gain of time behind the scenes you delay as long as possible.

Controlling the spread of information can absolutely not be undervalued.

I was talking to someone that knows a lot about this type of stuff this morning, actually I was listening to him talk about it. You both make a lot of sense and have my attention.

Welcome to VN.
