i get it, googled batna Best ALTERNATIVE TO a negotiated agreement ...

so currie is weighing options, cost vs return on anyone not named gruden.

i still don't follow what you've pieced together.

Pocket Aces is definitely a Texas Hold-Em reference. It is the best hand for a player to have. It's very hard to lose and easy to bet on.

Aces are worth 1 or 11 in Blackjack, but pocket aces is not a Blackjack term, so I don't think there's a date that can be associated with the term Pocket Aces.

I prefer to take that it means we have the best hand and it will be hard to lose.

People on here are trying to find 5 different hidden meanings for every word. It's exhausting lol :snoring:

I've been doing good keeping up with these threads, and never wanted to be the guy asking what I missed, but I apparently missed what everyone keeps referring to as something happening last night.

Can I please have some cliff notes or The Who the poster was so I can go look myself?

One of my favorite bands.

The only party that I imagine has a hard date for announcing is ESPN.

Yeah, this is relatively unprecedented. It wouldn't surprise me if a few high level NCAA attorney's have been drafting policy statements for this exact reason. Answering some version of the question, "When can a prospective NCAA coach announce his employment when he is currently working for a major sports media outlet?"

It's uncharted waters, and I'm fascinated.

In this era, information and opinion moves fast. Once it drops, it'll change overnight - no matter how long we wait. In six months, it won't matter whether he was announced tomorrow, or Nov. 30.

I do have a suspicion, based on a mostly overlooked ATL post, that there are boosters and UT staff working behind the scenes to try and judge how many recruits we lose by waiting. There's a game theory analysis and CBA that is done. If the risk is less than the gain of time behind the scenes you delay as long as possible.

Controlling the spread of information can absolutely not be undervalued.

I was right here for the fireworks.

That's not why I missed though.

It really is a given that if someone misses a couple of hours, more than likely:

Things are going smooth.

Somebody says something that can be interpreted as negative

Moods change

Mudslinging happens

Everyone calms down

Apologies

Restart cycle

So I am guessing we are waiting to see if Currie can slow play this long enough to beat the pocket aces that the Boosters think they are holding

I believe I have broke the code :)

Currie has no cards. He's dependent on boosters for financial support. He doesn't even have a 3 or a 9. :)

Conflicted about Saturday. I know we’re going to go set up our regular G10 tailgate, but I don’t know what to do about the game. My instinct is to pack up tailgate and go home with tickets in pocket, but I feel like that is turning my back on the kids (players) who don’t get a say in this. Maybe I’ll get these shirts made as a compromise.

if i'm interpreting this corretly ...

the boosters don't really care about the credit.
they're giving currie an opporutnity to become a legend.
if he botches this up, they will blame him for it.

it's up to currie, cause the boosters will let him own it either way.

You missed the administrative part of UT that has to relinquish some control and authority to the athletic dept. Boosters say sign our guy or we take our money elsewhere. Everything else is what I'm thinking. Currie has to make it work. That's the pocket aces reference. Boosters have all the cards. Like all the draw 4's in UNO..does that help LOL

I swear the people who call into WNML make me physically tired. Jimmy Hyams did once again say forget about Gruden, absolutely 100 percent forget it. Says the same issues from 2012 are there now.

Hmm. My Grudometer is back to less than 1%. I’d feel better if the media at least gave it a chance. Realize anything can happen but Hyams isn’t a click bait driver or rumor monger. He needs to sustain his credibility. We will see!

I sometimes wonder why we want Gruden so bad. He did win a Super Bowl and that is about it. Other than that season and one more he was below .500 as an NFL coach and ended his career 100 and 85 with a playoff record of 5 and 4. Other than his NFL career he was a position coach in college has never been the head man. So he is the guy that most want to be the coach here, but I don't see a lot of good coaching years. He was 4 and 12 one season and 5 and 11 another. Of course he has that Super Bowl.

Hyams just stated he has recently rechecked with his sources and they reiterated JG is not getting back into college coaching.

Shame

So what did they do when Urban Meyer was hired out of ESPN?

The way I understand it, is there are 2 options. One is Gruden and it’s what the majority want other than the main one, Haslem. Haslem wants something and has a scenerio and since he was the one who “approved” Currie, Currie feels beholdened to him. Except that if he goes that route, he will lose 10’s if not 100’s of millions of dollars in booster support. But if he goes with what most want, it could cost him his job and legacy, so he thinks.

His options are to 1) surrender to the main man and lose the support of thousands of people but make Haslem happy. Or 2) do what everyone wants, bring in millions of dollars to the school and be the hero everyone thought you were while possibly being blacklisted by the family.

Am I close?
