My 2,000th post!!!!
I was hoping to save this for a happier post filled with Peyton dancing and all other manner of celebratory gifs. However, here we are. As Vol fans it feels like yet another kick to the nuts every second that Butch is the head coach.
Here is where I have a case for optimism. I have NO inside sources and NO inside information whatsoever. This is simply my assessment of things I think "could" be happening right now.
Every day they trot ole Butchy out there as our head coach is nauseating for us. I get it. Here is why I think it is better for us in the long run. Florida fires their coach who has won 2 straight East titles. They are now "officially" on the hunt for a new coach. They can form search committees, talk to agents, etc. They now have a head start on us in that regard. That would seem to be a bad thing and put us behind the 8 ball since everybody and their brother knows Butch won't be here next year. Why would Currie let him dangle like that and waste time searching for the next coach? This tells me that we have identified our target and could/should be working to get that done. If we didn't have a target in mind, we would have to go through those same steps like everybody else. So, each day we have Butch is a day I tell myself we are working to get a deal done with our #1 target. I wished he would have pulled the trigger after Bama and let an interim take us the rest of the way, but there is obviously a reason to let him dangle.
Now, all of this could be trumped if it turns out Currie is a complete buffoon and doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground....which could end up being true. If so, heaven help us.
