Maybe I will write out the game theory problem as to why I am so confident.

As somebody that loves Econ, I welcome this!!!!

That's what is irritating. They used to, but they don't today. Tennessee is one of very few athletic depts in the country that has historically given back to the academic side. There were lean years where bailing out had to happen, but with the right hire this go around they could really set things back up like they used to be and then some!

Exactly

I think MIT's reference to game theory is interesting. Would like to hear more.

As of this morning, I had no reason to believe that the AD/AA was going to call the boosters on their threat to pull $.

That seems like a dangerously high stakes game of chicken for UT to be playing. I can only believe they would be willing to do so if they think they have a certain Ace still in their pocket/backing them. I’m just not certain that the Ace can/will cover down on the ante in its entirety.

I hope this isn't too inflammatory for this thread, but I feel relatively confident in saying that Gruden isn't interested. I know everyone's mother's brother's third cousin's uncle on his father's side has a friend on the board that knows with absolute certainty that the deal has already been made, but I've just heard too much of that on the last go-around to have much faith. That being said, I'm not overly excited about potential Butch replacements either. The current Vegas odds top 5 have John Gruden (+250, although I still don't buy that he's interested, but maybe they know something I don't), Chip Kelly (+400), Jeff Brohm (+550), Bobby Petrino (+550), and Mike Norvell (+900).

Not gonna lie, there's only one name on that list that excites me, and that's Chip Kelly. Yes, the idea of Jon Gruden excites me, but as previously discussed, I just canlt make myself believe that he's interested. That being said, I;d like to discuss a name that I don't think gets brought up enough. It might be a long shot, but I think it's at least worth having a discussion about seeing if Jim Tressel is ready to come out of retirement. His show-cause penalty ended in Dec '16. He had 6 Big Ten Conference championships, 2 BCS championships (if you count the vacated one), and a a career record of 229–79–2, or 241-79-2 if you count the vacated wins. With Ohio State, he was 94-22 (106-22). I just don't see another coach out there that can really match that record, and I don't know why he isn't discussed more.

Thoughts?

Anyone know why the Chip Kelly in Knoxville thread got deleted?

There's a piece that has been confusing for all of us from bubba. It was about a venture capital firm. Perhaps there is a deal with the firm to funnel research opportunities to the university. That would certainly sweeten the pot for the AA.

Just to cover buyout cash

The reference seems to be, based on his knowledge of the situation and his familiarity with decision making based on model, he would predict this situation to end up going how we all want it to.

Tells me he doesn’t know enough about UTAD lol

Haha yea, but it's Sunday afternoon and I'm not in the mood for a nap. I'm interested in how he thinks.
