Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIV

I’m cool with the $10 mil as long as th buyout is minimal. The hype behind Gruden would be amazing but there is a chance he wouldn’t bring the wins we hope for. Can’t get stuck with mediocre results AND a seven figure buyout.

So, you are good with $10m when its not $10m? If someone has a $1m buyout, than the $10m isn't going to mean much in today's world.

Any buyout is going to be well into the 7 if not 8 digit range.

He wanted more money because he was trying to get out and couldn't. Motives aren't always what they seem in contract negotiations.

How do we know he didn't wanna an extension first and when he was denied he then went looking for a way out?

I have no sources except past experiences and observations. Our power people won't invest that kind of money in a single coach yearly. We are setting ourselves up for a huge let down.

Brent Hubbs stated this AM he requested an official response from the AD last night regarding the status of the program. Got no response.

This actually gives me a little hope.
If Hubbs is starting to push the firing narrative then something is probably about to happen.
He is the face of the state run media.

This may sound crazy, but what if we do have Gruden in place, and butch accepted a lower buyout if they let him stay through end of the year?

The only way this works is if the recruits are notified that gruden will be coach next year..but there is no way recruits would be able to keep there mouth shut

Then say something. Currie needs to say something. He doesn’t have to give it away but make a statement so it doesn’t look like he’s taking a perpetual dump in his pants at every game.

We’re all anxious for closure and the beginning of something new. All evidence says it’s over for Butch. It’s simply a matter of timing. Everyone thinks they know when this should go down but they’re making that judgement without all the information. Let the people who have all the information make the decision on timing.

To me there would be no reason for him to accept a lower buyout if he has to face the wrath of the fans for the remainder of the year.

I wouldn't accept a lower buyout unless it benefited me.in some way. Wether that being saving face or preserving my coaching reputation in some way.

If he continues losing games that's not gonna happen.

I wish I could give you a hug. Although hugging a hog's tush doesn't sound very appealing.

Gruden could coach here and keep the corona, hooters, and other endorsements

Probably couldn't keep the beer endorsement for PR sake. But maybe the other ones. Although Saban and other college coaches tend to have more regional commercials. My point was more that he makes more than just his ESPN pay and has a pretty amazing job without the stress of coaching and putting up with a rabid fan base etc...

Or like another poster said, the agents are throwing these names and rumors out there to get the pot stirring.

Currie is still in Lexington, roaming the sidelines.. still looking for his b*lls.
He should be back in Knoxville tomorrow.

I think we all need to consider the corona/Halloween situation along with the knowledge that Currie likes to make announcements quickly and without warning. This may not be about egos, but about cleanly getting out of other obligations.

Edited to add: we've heard stuff about Tuesday and Halloween for a while now.

I agree, if one is to believe Gruden is the choice...then they must also realize that UT can’t possibly buy out every single Gruden obligation.

Choosing to believe that some previous obligations must come to an end. Be patient and SOON!
