Whoever’s controling all of this is a selfish, egotistical, D-bag. The team deserves better then this. You (not you personally) don’t think they hear and feel the tension? The fans who fill Neyland on a weekly basis deserve better than this. And yet there is 1 maybe 2 people who only care about getting what they want out of this, that they will hold up the process of making TN great again for the sake of their own gain. Total douche-bagery. IMO it’s one wealthy booster who views TN as his own company is pouting and not getting what he wants, some higher up faculty is snowflaking around spewing crap about the irrelevancy of sports and holding it up or it’s just John Currie trying to create/protect his own legacy and doesn’t have the balls to do what 99.9% of everyone knows he should do. Hopefully it’ll happen today but if not, it’s going to be a long week.

I heard Gruden has already signed a contract extension through 2021 for ESPN.

Highly doubt he’d sign it if he knew he was ready to accept the UT job.

He also has 4 national endorsement deals. Corona, Hooters, Nationwide and one more. Those could be worth another 1, 2, 3 million? So that makes me think that maybe we did offer him over 10 because it would take every penny. But would that even be enough? He has one of the best jobs in the world if you like football but don't want the stress of coaching.

The Petrino rumors could be more of his agent pushing his name out there. He has a 4.5 million buyout and a questionable past to say the least. Not buying into that one.

Now Butch has tanked, the wolves are at the door, and they've been caught with their pants down. We're going to end up making a panicked hire. Just like Dooley. Just like Butch.

Here are my little thoughts, they really don't mean much but it makes sense to me.

The only reason I can see for keeping Butch at this point is that a deal is close or has been agreed upon.

Why go through the hassle of naming an interm, shaking up the staff and having a semi new system implemented only to turn around in a couple weeks and do it all over again when a new coach is announced?

I think we all need to consider the corona/Halloween situation along with the knowledge that Currie likes to make announcements quickly and without warning. This may not be about egos, but about cleanly getting out of other obligations.

That is true. But say SOMETHING. Anything. He’s the perceived captain of the ship and we’re going down and he’s just staring off into the water as if nothing is happening. That’s what it looks like anyway. I’ve separated the hiring of Gruden from the firing of Butch. I actually think VFL92 is right. Gruden is ready to roll but our Mickey Mouse admin won’t get out of its own way.
