Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIV

This is exactly what I was talking about.
Pity.
Pity from KENTUCKY FANS!

Add to that the running joke amongst the local rival fans in my area is that Tennessee is always one year away from being "back".

It's all just so damned sickening.

It's like we have gone through all the states of grieving and have moved on to acceptance and fond memories. I went to every game in 98 from Syracuse to Tempe and I just pray my son gets to feel something similar to they just once. At this point a 10 win season would probably equate.

Hard to talk smack when you are 2-35 against us since 1985. They know we've hit rock bottom by losing to them. They also know that means there is a new sheriff coming to town and it will be a long time before they beat us again!

SEC Country’s Mike Griffith, reported that Jones said he “absolutely” expects to have continued support from Vols AD John Currie.

Who cares?

Its a thought.

He didnt claim to be an insider.

Its all speculation.

Gtfo if a new poster who had been lurking finally wants to join the fray.

1 post or 10,000...not a single one of us knows wtf is happening.

Not an insider by any means. The end of the promotion is a true statement, doesn’t mean it correlates to anything.

Like everyone else, I’m just choosing to believe, it’s better than the alternatives.

We give Jimmy a lot of grief - and deservedly so - but so far he has been right about this coaching situation. Would not be surprised at this at all.

He was right about the AD hiring process also. Said it wouldn't happen til Spring. He was correct.

So, one of my own small informational contributions to this conversation was input from the academic admin side (AA) that they had agreed on a number of concessions (from their perspective) to the football program. That was a major article, and it appeared to be cleared out of the way of the hire.

Within the last 24 hours we have seen some very specific rumors about Gruden's staff. Specifically, this morning we have a suggestion that he may have tapped Art Briles as OC.

I can think of nothing, literally nothing, that would be more likely to make the players in the AA lose their collective ish than allowing Art Briles to set foot on campus in an official capacity. It would be the kind of move that could easily throw a huge wrench into negotiations.

I'm not sure if the Briles rumor is true. I am interested that it has come out right at the time we expected to hear an announcement about Butch, but we haven't.

I've tried contacting my AA person, no response yet this morning. Not entirely unexpected with church going on. Will try again to find something out later.

IF the Briles rumor is true, then it's absolutely going to be a showdown between the $ and the AA. We will see who wins. I can tell you this though: if Gruden comes and Briles ends up being on staff, it will represent a huge power shift between football and academics, akin to the Romans burning Carthage and sowing the fields with salt.

Grude on!

This (IF TRUE) could very well be the reason that Butch was not fired right after the Kentucky game.... and could be the snag with Gruden :hi:

Jimmy's source is the AD. If Jimmy said it, it's because the AD wants people to know.

If he were going to be fired it would have already happened, waiting until Monday or Tuesday adds nothing to the equation neither does waiting till the end of the year. He is getting paid for this season whether he coaches or not

Just imagine Petrino leading the team out of the T.
He’s riding one of our new sponsors, a Harley Davidson.
He’s wearing a neck brace and has a majorette hanging onto him.
Unfortunately, Smokey swerves in front of his Harley, Petrino crashes into the Drum Major. The cheerleaders and players all go down like bowling balls into a Big pileup on the 20 yard line.
Kesling yells out, “what a turn of events”.
We make the “play of the decade” on Sportscenter.

I believe it would probably make “you had 1 job”

I think you're missing my point. I'm suggesting that IF Gruden for Briles as OC, it would ABSOLUTELY cause people to go insane inside the University.

But, and again, I've always respected your posts, but this is sounding more like an 'out' to the alleged people in the know.

Well, it was that dang Briles deal that made it fall through.

I am so bitter and skeptical right now, that may be coloring my view, but as of now, I'm seeing easy excuses as to why it didn't happen. I can't believe anyone with 3 brain cells left would even consider Art Briles.

I said this a few Grudens back and got bashed.

We will not hear any solid information while we still have a head coach. We don't even know for sure about "an agreement " with Butch. No University conformation. Just message board stuff.

All agree something needs to be done. We are on this thread wanting Gruden.
We won't know until the first step is done.

Its easy to be right when your fed what to say as the power players act out what they told you to say. What hes not right on is what they arent telling him.

I would be shocked if there is 50K at the Southern Miss next week if Butch is still our coach...Low attendance and a round of boos from the fans may be what it takes to get thru to Currie..That said, I still believe and am waiting just like everyone else..

SOON

Grude on!

This isn’t a new rumor as someone brought it up a week ago.

Will be at a Boy Scout event this Friday-Sunday. I remember when I was upset I wouldn't see the game. I'll read about our homecoming loss to Southern Miss.

What upsets me the most is watching my 13 year old son who gets so excited watching the Vols play and is probably a more passionate fan than me. Breaking my eardrums with YESSSS when we score or get a fumble. Can't sleep after the games from excitement. I had to wake him up 3 times during the game. They are missing what we had in the 90s and it's just sad and there is no solid indication it will get any better soon. When he said this morning "I'm not even gonna check the score next week" it makes me sad but I feel the same way.

My 12 year old chose to play PS4 online with his buddies last night instead of watching the game. His memory of UT football is Dooley and Butch. He is used to the Vols losing and unfortunatley expects it at this point. I hate that he hasnt experienced the Vols at their best when nothing but a win was expected by the fan base. Gruden or not, the powers pulling the strings have to fix this garbage train of not caring, or at least the look of not caring that they have displayed for 10 years. I want my son's to know what they have been missing!!!

And that is hard for me to believe with all the layoffs that's going on at ESPN with more to come.

Yeah exactly they have to cut a hundred something million and they are making him a contract through 2021. BS. I'm not saying he is going to come here but ESPN isn't making those long-term deals anymore. He'll they might not even have MNF in 2 years.
