Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIV

I believe that they actually prefer to have Butch continue to coach because it allows them to work this deal behind the scenes. If Butch is gone, it’s open season on everything they are doing. The National media starts watching instead of talking about Butch and if he will be fired. If you are trying to do things in secret then leaving Butch is your best play. At least until it’s done and you can announce. Just my thoughts and nothing more...

It is possible. Logical ... Yes. Smart ... Probably so.

Vivid imagery aside, what's your reasoning here?

If you think he wouldn't pull in top 5 recruiting classes with ease, you are kidding yourself.

And if we have good players but he isn't winning with them, well, we are back where we are now.

So what are you talking about? I think the fan base would be pretty bummed the consensus top choice didn't work out, but logically, I don't see how that's a doomsday scenario.

Look, I'm not here to trash your party so i'm going to largely stay out of this thread, but I do stop by to see if there is anything worth note once in a while. So far... nothing.

Gruden will not come to Ut unless he is put in a win/win situation. Gruden does not get involved with opportunity for failure. Currie, a very smart, experienced guy, with lots of experience being around guys who know what they are doing at kansas state, would have to give The Grud EVERYTHING. he would have to relinquish all control and pull in every donor favor and political favor in his position, the very shirt off his back to Gruden. Gruden will not come unless he can walk away and still be a winner.

Currie will not do that and niether would I.

You assume Gruden's name alone would have some pull with recruits... I have no idea and niether do you, despite what you want to believe, but I can say this for certainty. HE BETTER WIN. HE BETTER FLIPPING WIN, or not only will what ever pull you imagine him to have be lost in a hurry, but so will your football program, and the sports department at UT in general. HE BETTER WIN, or it's over.

Matt Campbell is 1000* a better gamble. He maybe a little expensive, but proven, and he would tie you in chains or leave you in rags.

Edit, Sorry about any spelling, I switched to a pc not long ago and cannot type on it for the life of me.

Bookmarked this thread at about page 40 last night (so I could skip the front page of the FF). Decided to read from there all the way to the end. Ya know, like reading a book and hoping for a really good ending? Savoring the anticipation. The ending where I find out Butch is fired? Got to the ending, and aside from a few good scenes with Daniela Lopez Osorio, gotta tell you guys this was a really crappy book.

Dude he's been talked about being fired every week on Finebaum

Just look at the FL situation, Mac hasn't been on the hot seat long and already every national sports network is reporting on him being fired, Jones has been on the extreme hot seat since UGA and nary a word has been spoke about UT firing him other than the question of why he hasn't been fired already

I can agree with this^^^^

Butch Jones Show: Kesling says "see you next week," Butch says "looking forward to it."

There you go. Same as last week. He'll be here all week.

^This is what I hope is happening... Hence Nov 27... But not sure

I don't claim to know, but based on what I'm told, Currie is hesitant to fire Butch, has been for a while. He knows he will eventually, but is not a fan of the "interim" angle. But there is increasing pressure, from fans, boosters and the Gruden side of things. I think Currie's plan has been to delay the firing as long as possible. I couldn't disagree more with the logic, but that's the way it seems to be.

The more the door closes on a potential bowl game, the easier the decision will become, but I won't speculate on when he lets Butch go.

I don't agree with this logic. But I've been saying all week, there's friction over the timing of all this. It's not what we want to hear, but it's the truth and we've seen it for a few weeks now.

By my definition last night should be considered "as long as possible". Same UT AD mentality now as before just a different name.

I believe full well that Currie knows what he's doing and things are going as planned. He didn't get where he is in life by being a dumba$$. Be mindful, he doesn't have the luxury of acting out of emotion, like we do. With that said, I don't know what the wait is, I'm sure it's in our best interest and that's what I'm going to believe....Until Currie proves me wrong!

Many of us were told it was a done deal in 2012, obviously it wasn't. If it were done now, Butch would be fired. There is absolutely no reason to keep him if the deal is 100%. If he isn't fired today, we are exactly where you said. Gruden is still considering or he is out. I hope it's the first and a small hurdle needs to be cleared. I was told right before the game Butch was out this week too. Im not going to believe 100% of what I'm told this time though.

Agree.
I was here in '12 and was 100% in.
I want him now, however I read here and other places, and don't put all my eggs in screen name experts.

I'm sure some have people they trust, but only the AD and few others actually know. We shall see.

You say you wouldn't surrender all control to him yet you use the keyword 'gamble.

Yup, Butch hasn't been fired and Gruden ain't coming to coach the Vols!

I agree, but the one other option is that he said yes, but can’t be publicized yet from his camp.

There are endless possibilities

Yes this is true, once Butch is fired the media will go crazy over who is next. As of now they are not digging into the options much.

You can't come into this thread and be rational!

Yeah, well I had a friend that worked at Baskin Robbins... His job was to let folks taste ice cream...so, now that we got that out of the way, let's talk Gruden stuff.

hey hey hey, now --take that shizz to the other threads. Gruden threads are about camaraderie.

Currie was in the Big 12 last year and watched Texas fire Charlie Strong and hire Tom Herman on the same day, about 7 hours apart. There is a good chance that is the model he is shooting for with this change.

At least, that's what I keep telling myself to explain this inaction because the alternative is too depressing.
